Ok heres the deal. I have an 11 F150 Lariat 4x4 supercrew loaded with 11k miles on it. I have horse and currently pull a 16ft bumper pull stock trailer. It pulls just fine has plenty of power and gets about 9-10 while pulling it. 15-18 empty. I'm looking at gooseneck trailers in the 3-horse slant with tack room/maybe living quarters size. So I was wanting another Superduty. I found an 11 F250 XLT 4x4 with the 6.2 and 26k miles. It's not close to as loaded as mine but its nice. And has airbags, tuner, intake, and B&W already. Looking at a straight up trade as an individual has it. Book for book mine is about $1000 more but his has the extra stuff on it already.

Real question is: Am I really gaining anything pulling a 10k lb gooseneck?

I suppose...the real question is do you need a 3 horse gooseneck trailer??? If yes, then the SD is a better option. If no, then your current setup is ideal.

I made the swap. Went from 2011 Ecoboost F150 to a 2012 F250 6.2L. Not looking back. The 6.2 doesn't have the empty "get up and go" feeling of rush like the Ecoboost did, but is has a never say die attitude when towing. I towed quite a bit with the Ecoboost, and while it never once lacked in power, the F150 suspension was getting taxed by some of my loads, lacked the stability, and towing fuel mileage SUCKED!!! The 6.2 gets around the same mileage as my Ecoboost did (I later found out that my Ecoboost had some major issues)...

So, my words to the OP...Make the swap. You'll be glad you did.

I would be leary of an 11 with 26k on it, and a tuner. Why would someone get rid of it? With such low miles.

I know a couple of guys who got rid of them because of the mpg. They really didn't need the F250, and once they had to put fuel in it on a regular basis, they got rid of them. The tuner may have been an attempt to increase the fuel economy. I would have the dealer (if it is at a dealer) give me in writing that the warranty is still active and full value, not null and void due to the tuner.

That's such a misleading statement that it's not worth entertaining beyond what I've written already...

There are lots of bad (2011) ones, with some severe problems, starting with the tranny and the list goes on, you might get an ok one or not, after all it is the first year for new engine, tranny and body. I know lots of 2011 owners as well as 2012 and even 2013 now, and I am fully aware of all their complaints and repair history or lack thereof, I can tell you with certainty that you would be better off getting a 2012 or even better yet a 2013. I have driven 2011s that do have signs of tranny issues even though the owner of the vehicle is oblivious to the signs, shift flares, hard abrupt shifts, etc. Those owners that assume those trannys are working right, will find out eventually if they don't start to deal with them now, most likely when they are out of warranty.

I have not heard anything to support that statement either here, dieselstop, RV.net or f150 online or from local owners here in the oil patch. Nothing is perfect but threads about the 6.2 SD are relatively boring.

Also I believe that the reason why the problem seems to show up sooner or more in diesels is because:

1. Diesels have twice the torque, so any tranny problems manifest sooner
2. There is a lot more diesels out there then gassers.
3. People with the diesels seem to work trucks harder, towing, hauling, therefore once again problems are seen sooner more in those, i bet proportinately the percentage is the same.
The 2011 model year seems to be the mostly effected.

Tranny problems apply to gassers just the same, although maybe not noticed as fast. Ford issued numerous tranny tsbs for them just the same.

I have a job 2 2011 gasser that had the shift flare issue. Ford changed out the # 3 solenoid and it has been trouble free since then. I pull 10,000#'s regularly and love my truck. It's a workhorse.

So I am curious, did Ford change anything on the truck from 2011 to 2012 to 2013? Other then some software upgrades for the transmission, I don't think they made any major changes that would make a 2013 better and more reliable then a 2011. Besides I only have 22000 miles on my truck and if I were not buying a new house I would be selling mine and getting a new one. I just like new things not that anything is wrong with it. The truck runs great and have never had a problem with mine.

Other than software/solenoid updates the tranny han't changed. A very few are having real troubles but it's not widespread. Kinda like the 6.7 hpfp issue, an extremely low number of failures but a huge number of posts about it. That's why we are questioning the statement about too many issues with the 2011...there is nothing to support that there are endemic problems with that MY.

You have to remember that people are more likely to post about problems than praises. The 6.2 forums are boring as 8iron stated. You can go to several different forums and see very few issues with the 6.2 and if there are problems ford is very good about taking care of it. Shane 2, if you need the super duty, let er' rip.

I did what you are considering doing. I went from a 2011 ecoboost to a 2012 6.2, and i am a true truck guy. The ecoboost drove like a cadillac not a truck. I also agree with the trailer pulling eco did it but not nearly as solid as the 250. I feel safer and more in control with my 250 pulling a 24 foot enclosed trailer loaded down.
