Well live and learn. I swapped the old gearbox back into place, bled the system and guess what? Same thing, no power assist! I guess maybe the PS pump was failing the whole time and the new Redhead pushed it over the edge?

I'll replace the pump, re-install the Redhead and hopefully my steering issues will be done (fingers crossed)! I can't think of anything else that would result in a complete loss of the power assist unless I'm missing something else. Any ideas from the collective brain trust would be appreciated.

I had a similar issue when I added the Red head box. I replaced the ps pump and hoses at the same time. In 2-3 weeks, no power steering. Replaced the new ps pump with a higher quality unit and have been satisfied ever since.

What brand did you finally go with?

Don't recall, but was the 2nd most expensive at RockAuto. (Minus FTE discount).

Wpnaes,
Would you be able to look back at your rock auto account and see which one you bought? I got a motorcraft 122 reman for the ps pump and I'm not really happy with it.
There is an FTE discount @ Rock Auto? How did I not know this?

My original was a Lares 2216 purchased in 2012; lasted maybe a month.

I went to Napa to get a Ford reman unit to replace the Lares.

Google Rockauto coupon and wade thru the links until you find the 5% code. This one should end 6/30. 6071665954479039

Looks like Rockauto has the Rord reman unit for $190 (core) #STP122RM. 24 month warranty.
