2003 Expedition wont start
 

Ok this is my first post here and I hope you guys can help.

2003 Ford expedition XLT

I just replaced a crank sensor, plugs, #8 coil pack and all the boots on the other packs.

when I got done I started the truck and it ran like a dream!!!

after about 2 minutes of running I shut the truck off cleaned up and went in side to change.

the wife and I were going to take the truck for a ride jjust to make sure all was well about 15-2O min later we came out to take the truck for a ride and it will not crank.

from what have read i THINK the anti theft is activated but im not sure. My key FOB remote will not work replaced the battery to make sure.
I have also checked the boards ad tryed to "reset" my anti theft but that didnt do it . i have read about a valet button but i do not see one on my truck. any help is greatly apprecated.

What is the THEFT light doing when you try to start the engine?

If you mean the red light on the top of the dash it is blinking @ 1 sec when left alone and goes out when i attempt to start

If by this you mean the starter won't engage, then try shifting into neutral to see if you can start it.

How are the battery connections?

good i had the battery out for about 4 days while i did the plugs but it is clean and tight....

Then it's time to test for power at the starter while a helper turns the key. If you get 12 volts down there when the key is turned, replace the starter.

I will do that BUT

would that cause the fob to not work? ie. the door locks and alarm set and unset?

Yes, if that is the factory installed light If that light goes out within a second or two of turning the ignition to RUN or START, the PATS (anti-theft) is not intentionally disabling the starter.

Do you have any optional security system, whether aftermarket or from Ford, installed? In the factory configuration, there is no interaction between the starter circuit and the remote keyless system. However, many add-on security systems include some kind of starter disable feature.

In your first post you were talking about it not cranking with the key and then you said you also tried the FOB. I took that to mean your FOB had the remote start option. So sorry for the confusion.

The anti-theft (PATS) disables the ignition and fuel systems, it does not keep the starter from cranking. That being said, I would dismiss the PATS for now and focus on a loss of power common to both the starter and FOB circuits.

I had to work late I will be trying to get a reading at the starter tomorrow HOPEFULLY it is the starter :-X16

no power at the starter....
