Intermittent Heat/Blower
 

I found no heat last week in my 01 F150. The AC was cold but no blower. The heat was there but no blower. I replaced the blower motor resistor. Result: i believe a FEW of the speeds worked when turning the fan speed switch...but was intermittent. It would blow L, M, H, then nothing. I jiggled the know on the dash mounted switch and heard it on/off, on/off the motor as I jiggled. I DID notice that when I disco'd the connector off the resistor the HIGH speed worked. Is the switch on the dash perhaps crusty ? Or should I be looknig at the motor itself.

sounds like dash related to switch, or loose EL plug. Should not be motor or resistor if you wiggle the switch and it goes on and off... Loose plug will give intermittant ground / power , and could have damage the resistor in the beginging.

I see. i hope I didn't put the resistor/fuse part in incorrectly. the Molex connector on that part is on snug. I'll resistor_ohm out the fuse and the coils in that part. WHAT IS "EL" plug ? Thanks, for the help; your my only reply

You can unplug the resistor and the blower will still run on high speed. The resistor is only used for the lower speed settings to reduce the power to the motor (which controls its speed).

There a number of things that have to be good to get the motor to run including at least two fuses, a relay, two switches, the motor, plus all the wiring and connections.

ok, so for a sanity check: I know of the fuse in the inside compartment, the one in the engine comp, the relay is also in the engine comp ? the 2 switches in the dashboard and the wiring .... I'll check the fuses again, the resistor and coil part I put in...WHERE is the relay ? And then, I hafta go to the dealer and ask him if he can find me the p/n on the fan motor switch. yes ? thx man.
