I'm Mike, I'm in Spokane, I joined here because I picked up a 90 F250 7.3L. I also have a 91 beater 2 door Explorer with 310k that's my daily, a 01 2 door Explorer with 3.9L Isuzu turbo diesel and straight axle conversions and a 00 4 door Explorer for the wife.

Welcome Mike, how's life on that side of the mountains? I too dig diesel conversions. Isuzu is bed fellows with Chevy though. You basically put a Duramax in a Ford. That's blasfamy lol. Just giving you a hard time. The conversion is still cool. Take care.

It's cooling down and getting dark early, a recipe for getting little work done. :/

If Ford had a decent diesel in the 4.0L range I'd have gone that route, but the baby V-6 Powerstroke sucks as bad as the 6.0L it's based off. I could have gone Cummins 4BT, which is found in Ford medium duty trucks as factory option sometimes, but from my research the Isuzu is a better choice and even less expensive.

Welcome to WAFTE, it's a bit quiet here but once in a while it gets busy. I don't know anything about diesels so i can't add to that, but nice vehicles nonetheless.

Well, I am wanting to do a Cummins conversion for my '73. I'm kinda partial towards Cummins especially since I've been to school for them. :D

Oh hey, I'm curious. Besides the cheaper price tag, what made the Isuzu a better choice?

Don't get me wrong, Cummins are great and my dream truck is a early CCSB Super Duty with 6BT and ZF6. Someday I'll build it...


The major advantages of the Isuzu were shorter engine height, higher factory rev limit, less noise and vibration, removable cylinder sleeves. Also there's some indications it gets better fuel economy but not enough concrete data since every swap is different.

Well, keep us informed on how the zuzu engine does on fuel. I'm curious.

I Put a cummins 6at in my '59 f350. 6cyl turbo, only 120 hp but way more tq than the 223 six that I pulled out. I'm usually on the 57-60 fridge truck page, but been cruising around the site a bit. It would be fun to meet up with some Western Wa ford truck guys if you ever get together for a meet or something. And jgavac, I can see Whidbey Island from my kitchen window. Well we do have meet ups about once a month. In fact tonight we are having on in Renton. Unfortunately that is probably quite a drive for yourself since your out near whidbey island.

Hello Groupies... I have a few questions I hope you can help with.
I have a 1997 F-250 HD, 460, auto
I am getting no fuel from my front tank, replaced the switch, still nothing.. next option?
Question # 2, I bought my boy a 74 Hiboy yesterday, well it backfires out the carb so I was going to check the timing. Doing google reserch I have found anywhere from 6- 25 degrees advanced... any recomendations?

Check in the era specific forums.

For your '97, check the fuel line for any obstructions

for your '74, look on the underside of the hood on the drivers side, and see if the sticker is still visible. On there should be a timing setting

As for the 97, The lines connect between the fuel filter (on the rail between the two tanks) and the two tanks, the rear tank works perfect, however the front I get nothing pumping through to the injectors. I am to the point of dropping the front tank, but was hopping it would be something much easier than that.
