Rear springs on 60 F250
 

I finally got new springs & shocks on my front end. Lifted it about 3" & now the rear is squatted down, so I guess I need to replace them next, since upon closer inspection, they're mis-matched & 1 side has a broken main leaf that's just been welded back together. My question is how do you get them off??? Looking at the spring mounts, there don't appear to be any conventional bolts on the the brackets or the shackles??? Can't believe you'd have to drill out the rivets & remove everything, just to replace a spring! What am I missing?

ByrdDog There is a locking pin on each of the 6 shackle pins. Tightened and secured by the 1/2 inch nut just below center line of each shackle pin, remove the nut and drive the locking pin out. Then on the inside rail of the frame you'll find a hole that sorta kinda lines up with the four stationary shackle pins. use these holes to drive the shackle pins out with a drift. (and lots of your choice of penetrating oil) This is easier done with the bed removed from the truck. The two traveling shackle pins that connect the rear eye of each spring can be removed after the spring is out.:-blah

Hey Byrd.Dog, where did you locate new springs from? I have a 59 f250 and the front is down to about 1 inch of travel before hitting the stops. Guess it's time to replace them eh?

I had mine custom-made by a local outfit called Texas Spring. $160 per spring, which I thought was a good deal, but if you're not local, shipping would be a killer. Any good-sized city should have a shop capable of making them - try a local 4x4 shop.
