200 Amp alternator swap on 1997 F250 HD
 
Hi. I would liike advice on installing a 200 amp alternator on my 97 F250HD. By adding a 2 guage wire fron the alternator post directly to the battery help eliminate any problems with wires burning up r meltinmg. How about chance of fires? Please help. Thanks, John

I guess I would ask why would you need such a large amp rating? Thats big enough to power (on the lower end of demand) a fire engine with all the electrical & computer systems!

Alternator swap
 
:-X21I plow with it. With the stock alternator , the truck wants to quit qhen raising the plow during oprations. With all the accessories: light bar, wipers, radio, heater/defroster ,gps, etc., the demand is too great for the stock alternator.

If you haven't done so I would calc out the amp requirement (watts divided by volts)....What I am suspecting is happening is there is not enough reserve capacity...your existing alt can be upgraded to 200 amp but I am betting a duel battery is the key here.
