Upfitter Switches
Hey everyone, hows it going?
Well I sold my 06 F250, and am now in an 05 F250 which has the upfitter switches that are calling my name and wanting to be used. I've already read up on wiring them, but was just curious to know what most of you used them for. Personally I was thinking: 1) Off-Road Lights (Front) 2) Reverse Lights --> Would be nice for bonfires 3) ??? 4) High Idle Mod So lets hear it, what are yall doing with them? |
Backup camera over-ride. My head unit will let me view the camera if it is on.
I still have 3 to use for other things Sean :-drink |
Compressor for air horns :-X04. How did you do the camera override!? my head unit has the option for a camera and i am in the process of wiring my upfitters.

1. 100+ yard visibility HID lamps
2. Aux. Cooling fan 3. Rear Lights 4. Air Comp. Remember two are 10 amp and the others are 30 amp. Plan ahead. |

in reverse and pull the small amount of power for the camera. To make the override I used a diode to keep the power from the uplifter switch from back feeding the system and just taped into the camera power. What you have to do with the diode is place it between the camera feed and them place the new power feed on the end away from the backup power. It works like a one way valve Backup +++++ (diode) Tap >>camera You need to make sure that the diode is the right direction so that power will flow from it to the camera and the tap. If you put power on that line when it not in reverse you can have some funny things happen like. Backup lights on, park aid beeping , review vies mirror not dimming when it should and so on. Please pardon my ignorance. Can you go into more details about the diode? I have a mirror display unit on a 2013 f-250. Can you describe things like which wires to use, do you strip or cut the video in wire or the reverse wire, where do you connect the upfitter wire?
|
I am not up on your year and model.
One thing DON'T cut the video cable. You do and you can/will end up with a bad image. The reason for the diode is to keep the power from going back to the the other controlling device. How you add it is this way. Pick your splice point in the backup light signal wire to the camera control you make the splice with the diode on the side where the signal is coming from and pointed so it does not block the signal. The aux turn on power is placed on the line after the diode so that it will supply power when you want and the diode keeps you from back feeding the reverse lights while your driving forward. Yahiko,
Thank you for the information. Can anyone tell me what the color of the backup light contol wire is on a 2011+ Super Duty? Where is the best place, in the cab, to find this wire away from the mirror? Thank you for the help, Doug |
Doug, There is another thread on here somewhere discussing this. The problem you have is that after 2010 model year they started telling the camera to come on via a electronic message from the onboard computer(instead of a simple power wire previous years.) I was able to do this on my 2010 with the mirror camera, but I was unable to do it on a friends 2009 with the Navigation screen or a 2011 with the mirror screen. After additional reading it sounds like the only option for making this work on your truck is a LockPick device. Sorry!!
