A crazy thought

While laying under my all wheel drive Aerostar to measure the front suspension for a possible Aerostar swap into my 58-60 project, I got to thinking..hmmm.. I wonder how hard it would be to put the four wheel drive front from an Areostar under the fridge. Set it up with a 4.6 and E4od or whatever tranny those use. What a great cruiser and one that would do good on our winter roads.

Well I would agree with one aspect of this idea, it's crazy! :D Personally have never been a big Aero fan. However, if it works for you it's the right way to go, nothing wrong with a little crazy from time to time.

I've had 2 of the vans and in the winter they are awesome. Plus the 4.0 is bullet proof. It looks like the front track is a couple inches wider but I couldn't get an accurate measurement on the F100. The frame width on the van is about an inch wider and I'm not sure on oil pan clearance but it looks like an easy swap other than the angle of the input shaft on the rack.

I have a similar crazy idea of putting 1997 F450 4x4 axles and springs under my 59 F100 4X4. Might be a bad idea as my 59 is about 95% or better original, but if I can get the running gear for free I would just have to deal with the big ol' 10 nut hubs. :)

I would venture a guess that those ten lug axles are twice as good as those five lug ones you have on there. :-X21Without running it as a dually, the track width would be too narrow for your bed. Running duals it would be too wide without added on fenders. Either way, you'd have to tub the rear fender wells. When all is said and done, you'd have a 1/2 ton frame with massive axles and springs. I agree it would look cool though........

I want this F100 to be my main daily driver. I don't need it to be a truck, have plenty of those. I would like it to be the replacement for my dorky Aerostar.

Thanks for the feedback, I'll just stick with trying to get this truck drivable for now. ;) sorry for the hijack.
