Parking Brake light
So here is my issue, my parking brake light stays on. Ive checked my parking brake pads, the cables and the switch. They are all servicable and operational yet the light stays on...anyone have any ideas?

Check your brake fluid level. If it is down a little it will cause the brake light to come on and stay on until reservoir level is brought back up. If this is your problem check your brakes (front and rear) could be time to replace some pads and rotors.

Rotors and pads front and rear have been changed this week plus the the parking brake shoes. Ill check the fluid level

OK so fluid is good. Is there a sensor on the rear hub somewhere?
|
No.
There are only two things that should turn on the red BRAKE light: The float switch in the brake fluid reservoir or the switch on the parking brake. One is malfunctioning. |
Make sure parking brake lever is returning all the way up. pull release and then grab lever and lift. Might be a weak spring or dirt/corrosion on the cable. Most drivers do not use the brake and this may cause problems to develop. Its important to use it as-designed. Stop the truck with the service brake; holding the service brake, put trans in Park; holding the service brake, set the parking brake; turn off engine and release service brake. To drive, start engine; hold service brake; release parking brake; put trans in gear; release service brake. This prevents wear/damage to the parking pawl in the trans and exercises the parking brake. Eventually a brake that is used will need adjustment.

I've got the same problem with the light. Mine is because of the magnetic float in the master cylinder. Something went wrong with it. its fairly common in the cruisers my garage services at work. I just run it with the light on. Looks bad but I haven't been ambitious enough to fix the issue

Anybody have a diagram of where this FIL switch is? My parking brake light has been flashing at me for a few months now, and I'm getting tired of seeing it. I'd like to replace it if I can, but I don't even know where to look.
