About to buy an F250 6.7L Diesel - Questions
 

I've been considering an F150 with the EcoBoost or 5.0L, but now think I'll go with the 6.7L Diesel in the F250. I'm not very familiar with the F250 or the 6.7L. I did test drive both trucks and loved both. I really liked the F250, and since I'll be using it for towing, it seems like the right choice.

What I'm asking is, what are some of the issues I may want to do some research on before I pull the trigger? Anything I should really look at and consider? I know it's a great truck, but I just want to be an informed buyer. What is the consensus on the 6.7L Diesel?

Most people love it, but both engines are fairly younge and relatively untested. But as far as I know the 6.7 has not developed any critical flaws.

The 6.7 is a great engine, on forums 95% of the time you only hear about the bad. Thats why people come to forums, if you go out and talk to owners of these trucks in the real world, most of them have no idea about the minimal issues people have had. One of my friends has bought 3 of these so far to replace older fords in his fleet, and loves them. Awesome power, great tow platform, good MPG (for a 8000lb truck) and QUIET!

Bout the only thing you need to do with these trucks is add some add-a-leafs or air bags to the rear if you haul alot, because the springs are rather weak for a truck. Otherwise, find a truck you like and enjoy!

So the biggest difference I've noticed between my 150 and 250 is the unloaded ride. The 250 is quite a bit stiffer when empty (which you would expect) but it did kind of surprise me. Love my SD so far...I tow a 8000lb TT every other weekend and it is sooooo much better than the 150 in that regard.

The biggest problem I've heard and read on the 6.7 is the high pressure fuel system. If water gets into the fuel system its almost a total replacment on the whole system and that will come out of your pocket because thats not covered in the warrenty. Go to the 6.7 forum and ask away.

I love my 6.7L. I'm not too keen on the latest flash for it (robbed me of a mpg or two), but it tows my 5th wheel great. Way better than the 6.4L. I would highly recommend it.

if your going to tow, definately buy the f350. i believe theres only what, a $750 price difference or something like that?? the 250 sags SOOO bad even under the light loads. i got the 250 and ended up adding leafs and a bunch of other stuff i wouldnt have had to if i just paid for the 350... either way, ull love the truck. but thats my biggest regret is not going with the 350

I was on that same fence 3 months ago. Right now I just have a 8K travel trailer, but who know what new campers the future will bring. So glad I got the 6.7.

I would get the 350 if your towing alot.I read alot of posts with guys complaing of the sag on the 250 rear end.Very little price diff in the end.

I don't get much sag/squat in the back end with my 250 but my TT is barely 8000lbs dry weight. But I would get the 350 over 250 all things being equal. I went 250 over 350 because there was big financial difference in taking a 2011 F250 off the lot versus ordering a 2012 F350.

You stated towing, but towing how much ?

if less than 5000 lbs, the deezle will be overkill and do understand that maint on a deezle is much more than a gasser....

If you are towing more than 10k - make sure you get the correct truck for your load, the 250 may not be enough !!! Check pin weights, rear axle weights, etc... good luck !

so be sure you are comparing apples to apples :) there's a reason they make more than two of them...

on edit - you see what I chose and I love the truck - nary a hiccup when towing too much for it !
