So far I believe the body is a 56 and frame down is a 53. the glove box plate says 56, but the placement of the fuel cell says 53. Anyway i believe i have a Rockwell, not sure. I did the wheel spin and came up with 24.25 spins at the drive shaft for ten rotations at the wheel, so that would be 2:43, correct ? back plate to back plate is 53" I think. there is also a casted number on it "3162"

That's a Timken A150 from an early F-250, probably a '53 like you said. The hub caps give a second confirmation that the chassis is an F-250. Gear ratio would be 4.86/1. Don't through the hub caps away, guys are looking for them. The 16" wheels too for that matter, depending on what your plans are for the truck. Stu

Ok, yeah i plan on keeping the wheels, so that is a bit different to my first post, b/c the glove box plate has 4:86 stamped on it, Hm

different from what "I" posted, my initial thought was that my truck has been pieced together, but now since the ID plate in the glove box matches the rear end that i have, i'm think now, this truck actually goes together.

Oh, I see. Do you plan to keep it stock? Some guys swap this axle for a Dana 60 from a 1972 or earlier F-250 to get a more highway friendly gear. Stu

for now I'm planing on swapping it out, got a lead on a dana 60, 2.23, disc, just need to find out the width. But would love to keep the stock and install a Gear Vendors.

is there an 8 Lug Dana 60 ? I would love to keep my stock wheels, I'm installing a front disc kit from The Street Rod Mfg, the only one I've found that's 8 lug.

LMC truck catalog calls it a Rockwell A150, so which is it?:-huh

1948/56 FORD TRUCK PARTS CATALOG / TEXT, PAGES 145/146 = TIMKEN A150

Sometime after 1956 Rockwell acquired Timken, became Rockwell-Timken. But, there is no FORD TRUCK PARTS CATALOG ref for a Rockwell A150 or Rockwell-Timken A150.

:-X09 LMC has no friggen clue, their catalogs are rife with errors and omissions.

8 lug 6.50" bolt circle pattern Dana 60: 1954/86 F250 / 1969/74 E300 / 1975/86 E250 / NOTE: Dana 70 looks very similar to a Dana 60, has the same 8 lug 6.50" pattern (after 1966). Only installed in E/F350's.

There's also a Dana 61-1, looks similar to the others.

What does 2.23 refer to inre to a Dana 60, the axle ratio? No such thing was ever offered by FoMoCo. Common ratios: 3.54, 3.73, 4.10, 4.56, 4.88 / 3.00 & 3.23 introduced in 1980.

3.00/3.23/3.54: Everyone wants one, few find them.

8 lug 6.50" bolt circle wheels: 1953/98 F250 / 1967/98 F350 / 1969/74 E300 / 1975 thru today E250/350 / F250/350's went to metric wheels in 1999. No Econoline has metric wheels.

Let's see if I can muddy it better. Bill already posted the best reference, pages 145/6 of the chassis parts catalog, 1964 edition. The Jan/54 edition, however, is silent to the manufacturer. Further, the Hollander Interchange is silent to the manufacturer. And the Ford Service Forum 1953, Booklet #8, Servicing The F-250 Rear Axle , is silent to the manufacturer. My other source for the manufacturer, though, is the James K. Wagner book Ford Trucks Since 1905 where he says on page 252 that the F-250 got a "Timken-Detroit hyphoid rear axle". Stu

Last Friday, I was in Riverside (CA), so I whizzed over to Faxon's store, warehouse is more like it. I've never seen so much literature in any one location, it's mind boggling.

Rows and rows of bins over 30' high. But, Ed didn't have what I was looking for, a Standard (hardware) Parts catalog that covers 1979 and earlier.
It was Spicer originally, then Spicer/Dana, now it's just Dana.
