Coming to Carova

Hi all NC Ford truck nuts! Me and my family are making the trip from central PA to Carova beach for a week beginning Sept 15th. It would be nice to chat with a fellow FTE member while there. I will be driving my 2003 Silver Excursion and my son in law Josh will have his 2003 F250 powerstroke crew cab long bed. It is dark blue and silver with a matching blue cap. I have been there once before, but the kids havent. Gonna try some surf fishing. e-mail me at beast428pi@yahoo.com.

Sounds like a fun trip. Since you've been there you know the layout. I would suggest you ask around about beach permits. While you can access the main upper beach roads you may be required to get a permit to access the shoreline or beach proper with your trucks. Some parts(beaches) aren't even accessible till oct. 1st. Bring a portable compressor because you will definately need to dump a bunch of air from your tires on those big rigs. Im talking almost to where its off the bead. Ask me how I know. :-X03

Another thing to keep in mind if you're going to fish. Anyone over either 16 or 18 will need a temporary fishing license. You can get one online from the nc wildlife site. There's pricing for out of state users.

Lots of good fishing during sept. For surf fishing long rods and bottom rigs are the norm. Cut bait, squid and shrimp are fine. Dig up some sand fleas for free. Catch plenty on sand fleas. Bring a cast net and catch pinfish and small mullet/croaker/spot to use for cut bait. You can usually get plenty of bait fish in the morning on the sound side in knee deep water.

Enjoy your trip. If you have any questions or need anything while in north carolina just ask.

Take care.

No permits needed to drive the beach, but you will need one to fish. The condition of the beach can be very unpredictable so be sure to drop your tire pressure to about 50% of normal. Also you pick up a Carova tide chart at either the Winks, Corolla Pizza, or the Carova Beach Volunteer Fire Department.

This is actually my 3rd trip down and I have done the beach driving but my son in law hasn't. Already did the tide chart, hope no hurricanes around! Just looking forward to the relaxation that Carova provides. We will be close to the fire hall. Not sure of the mile marker.
