Flat decks
Show me your flatdeck firdges! Still uncertain whether to go with an 8ft box or a 10ft deck. The deck would be much more practical for me but they look real nice with a styleside box too.

Here's mine when it had the 9' ford script stakebed. I swapped it out for a 9' flareside bed. Sometimes I wish I'd just put the 9' box on my '92 IDI . But of course I wouldn't be a fridge guy in that case. Both have a 60" cab to axle dimension. My '92 has a 9' service box on it. Is your IDI a single cab?

My vote would also be for a box. If you don't have one then a flat rack would be fine though!

The 94 is a regular cab long bed. I have a useable 59 short bed but a 1 ton short bed is stupid. I might know where a long flare side bed is, just gotta wait for the guy to get back from vacation. I also have an extended cab long bed frame I can switch to, at this point its a frame with axles and engine so switching wouldnt be a problem.
The reason for a 10 ft bed is I can fit my vw buggy or sleds on it and not have to pull a trailer. A shorter deck with a fold down end gate isnt out of the question either. The stake bed farm truck look isnt a bad thing. http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i1...16730145_n.jpg http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i1...icles/8095.jpg |

I pity the poor deer (or buffalo) that gets whacked by that grille guard! Couple of really nice looking trucks there! 19.5s on the fire dept truck?
|
a one ton short bed is stupid? :'( you cut me to the bone man! looks like a 59 factory f250 4x4 to me wearing the optional 19.5 rubber GB. mine will be on soon!

Sorry Mark! I like the look of a short bed truck but its useless if it doesnt have a big enough box to actually carry it's payload IMO. I have owned a short bed truck before, just one, it sucked.
Nobody out there running a flat deck? I need some more ideas! Should have the cab mounted by next weekend. |
i was just bustin your chops, it doesnt matter to me. i bobbed mine because the back was all smashed to heck. if it were me i would look for a script bed or make my own.

Metal strips for what? I dont follow.
|
i believe what spur is talking about are the metal strips that would go over the top of the seam between the boards on a wood floor. they hold the planks to the cross members.

To me, nothing looks better than a factory style side bed.
I do love the steel flatbed on my F350 but it's no what you'd call a looker. |
Tbird, what is your cab to axle dimension, or what WILL it be when the cab is mounted? You are sort of making one truck out of two I have and both of mine have a cab to axle dim of 60". Dont see how a pickup box will work unless you find a 9' box or a later box from the f350 pickups in the 70s that had the wheel wells set way back. I've never seen a 9' style side, but I'm pretty sure they made them.'That would be way cool.

I parted out a 58 F350 single rear wheel with a 9 foot style side bed back in the 80s, made a trailer out of that nice bed.:-hair
