Straight axle swap
 
im looking to do a straight axle swap in my 96 f250 and was wondering what i need to change or look for in a axle or what exactly to do also what kind of axle to look for im hoping i can just bolt it to my existing leaf springs any info would be great thanks

You can use a dana 60 out of an F350 of this vintage. But you're gonna want to use the 1 ton springs. Its best to buy a parts truck with a blown motor or something similar. Usually u can grab a whole truck for 1000 which is what the D60 is worth alone.
You could also use an axle from the late 70s (that's what I did) and the spring perches just need to be seperated a little bit.
But you'd need the steering components, suspension, and track bar as well as a complete axle for whichever you choose.

now would i have to change the steering from the pitman arm down and will the one ton springs line up with the 250 spring mounts and what do u mean spread the spring perches?

I believe the hangers are either in the same place, or the holes are there already.
yes everything from the pitman arm down.
on the late 70s axles, the perches are closer together pn the axle because the frames were narrower. You just have to torch off the existing mounts and weld perches a couple inches further apart.
