Fuel lines
My boyfriend's 1994 Ranger 2.3 studders really bad once throttle is engaged. We've changed out the fuel pump 3 different times, and it still hasn't helped. Also, we've changed the fuel filter-hasn't helped. Now he has the fuel line that goes from the engine to the fuel filter, and he doesn't know how to disconnect the quick connector. He already de-pressurized it, but says if he takes the hose off, he won't be able to get it back on. HELP PLEASE.
It seems that it runs alot smoother the higher the RPM, but doesn't quit completely. During the mornings whenever first cranked and ran, it runs very smoothly, but studders as soon as it heats up to temp. I'm pretty witty when it comes to automotive repair, but Fords are not my forte. I know that you do not have to have the tool for the connectors, but I don't recall what I was taught in my ASE certification classes since it's been a few years. How-to help is needed ASAP. |
Have you thought about checking the timing belt, the plugs, wires and coil? And a cheap set of fuel line disconnect spools beats wondering how to get them apart.

Yes, we have looked at everything, and have concluded that it's either a fuel delivery problem, or a firing problem, but the spark plugs and wires are showing no signs of stress. We finally got the fuel line on that he bought, but it still hasn't fixed the problem.

When changing the fuel pump on a 1994 ranger having problems with the plastic ring that holds the pump in place

Your timing could have jumped, and the symptoms of that would match your situation exactly.

shudder
When my MAF sensor went bad(If your 94 has one being OBD1), my truck would start , kinda idle OK, and if you gave it throttle, it would cough and choke itself till it would die. But, it would always start, again and again. Food for thought...
