Door lock cylinder, all the same?
I got my '95 Club Wagon up for sale, and I probably will have to replace all the lock cylinders since they're all froze. Only way in is the fob. I've seen a set of 4 on-line, for '97-'07 vans, for under $50 and that sounds good, other sets don't specify a year.
So, are there different styles over the years? Or would '95 be the same as '97? Obviously I have power locks, so does that affect the cyl? Do they ever free up the with penetrating oil? I've been trying on and off for months with no luck. thanks. |
i know for a fact that on the older body style (thru 91), all door locks are interchangeable between positions, and also between other fords of the same key style. this also gives us the freedom to step away from the 2-key system and install door locks from an older ford on the same key as the ignition.
i haven't studied them on the newer body style vans, but i suspect you'll find them similarly interchangeable |
The current lock on the rear barn door on my E350 truck is from an Aerostar mini van

We are scrapping a '98 E-250 cargo at work, all the door locks work and the ign is not loose. Boss says take what I need. Assuming they will work on my '95 w/power-locks even though the cargo has no power-lock.

usually the cylinders are the same regardless of power locks, the power unit is on a linkage just like the inside lock handle. may as well take the whole set

Thanks Josh, that's the plan, including Ign, keep it all one key.

Close but not quite...
I installed all the lock cylinders from a '99 E250 into my '95 club wagon, doors and ign.
Ign was a direct fit, my old '95 ign cyl is now in the '99 and vice versa. Doors were a bit different, while they look the same, shape etc., the '99 cylinders are just a bit larger than the '95. So I had to enlarge all the lock holes in the '95 doors to use them. Same shape hole, just about 1/10th inch bigger. A job that probably could have been done in an hour or so, with panel removal, took me 2 1/2 hours to complete, using die grinder and files. The clips that retain the cylinders are also a bit larger, to fit the bigger cylinders. I'm glad I got these locks and keys for free, really can't complain! |
