Funny you should say that Chris. Today my buddy Mikie gave his CB radio out of his old dodge for free he wrecked a year back. Its a Galaxy DX-33HML and I remember it working flawlessly. Now if I can wire it in and use the PA function at traffic lights for those pesky drivers who dont know what green light stands for }>
If you ever listened to a CB, and you heard people talking like they had their head in a bucket, all distorted and unintelligable. These are people using sideband. ;) Galaxy made a lot of CBs for Radioshack back in the day. |

Does that CB have Sideband? Sideband is alowed 3 times the power output of the regular CB channels. Need to get mine working again.

I don't believe it does, never sounded like a bucket when he used it :D
:D. Just for clarification to people that don't know... It only sounds like a bucket if the person listing to you doesn't have sideband on their CB, while you are broadcasting on Sideband. :D Two radios with sideband, on the same channel talk to each other fine. :) A Sideband radio has 40 lower band channels, 40 regular CB channels, and 40 upper band channels for a total of 120. A sort of between CB channel 38 and 39 would be the sideband channels of 38 High and 39 low etc... A regular CB can pick up those sideband channels, but it's distorted because they are not on frequency. They both can interfere with each other, but on sideband the radio broadcasts 2/3rds more power legally than a regular CB. FCC alows 12 watts sideband, but only 4 watts on regular CB. Not sure if they even make CBs with Sideband anymore. |
I still have an old Pierce-Simpson Puma 23B. It is a non-sideband crystal controlled frequency unit that because it's 23 channel is allowed 5 watts rather than 4. I had it set up years ago at full 5 watts and 100% modulation. I have been accused many times of running a linear amp on it. I've had it so long I actually had a license for it when I first got it KOZ-7817.
