scraping sound on hard left turn
I'm getting a scraping sound on hard left turns. I've only noticed it on a steep hill where I work going under five mph and making a sharp left turn. I got out today and it doesn't look like the tire is hitting anything. The shield in front of the tire is slightly looser than the right side, but can't see it making the noise unless something is hitting it. I've read some previous posts that indicated traction control possibly coming on. Has anyone experienced similar? I have about 4,000 miles, 20 inch tires, and everything stock.
Thanks |
Had a similar thing happen when pulling into my drive. Hard left turn etc. Same tires and stock.
I have not investigated as only happened once. Sounded like a tire rubbed to me...:-huh |
I'm betting it's your traction control applying the brake to that wheel. mine does the same thing when i make a sharp on uneven ground.

I was hoping you were right, but just tried it out with traction control off and it's doing the same thing. Talked to the dealer and their saying " if it doesn't do it on flat ground, which it doesn't it's going to be hard to duplicate and diagnose"

I have a similar issue on mine, turn a sharp corner and hit a bump (small or large). It sounds like the ABS kicking in even if I'm not on the brakes. I'm suspect of the traction control.

about the only other thing i could think of is your CV joint may be binding if it's a 4x4, but i'm guessing it's a 4x2 since you have the 20" wheels

I did notice that on top of the ball joint bracket on each side there is a circular piece of steel that sticks out a bit and has a small amount of what looks like black tire marks. The right side looks like its marked a little more. I think this is probably a tire stop, but I don't think it would make the scraping noise I'm hearing.

...That said, I believe that all new lariat, platinum, and king ranch 4X4 trucks come stock with 20in wheels.

I have a 2011 Lariat 4x4 that came stock with 18" wheels. Maybe your dealer would trade you if you'd prefer the 18".

The owner has two Ford dealerships within about 20 miles. I asked both if they would swap my 20's for 18's and they didn't want to. I had about 2,500 miles at the time and maybe they didn't want to put my 20's back on a new truck.

IS this on the front right? My 2011 F150 does it when turning left on uneven terrain. I thought there was a TSB out on the steering rack for this, since there has been numerous people complaining on it.

Check your shock for scrape marks. When I added the 1 1/2 inch spacer the left shock had scrape marks, seems to be from the coil. Turning right on mine, hit any bump and you hear the noise.
