Rear 12 volt convenience outlet problem
2010 F250 extended cab. The 12 volt convenience (cigarette lighter) outlet on the rear of the center counsel, will pull out of the counsel when trying to detatch a power cord. There doesn't appear to be anything holding it in other than the very thin plastic wall of the counsel it is mounted in.
I use the outlet a lot in my job. I power a vhf monitor radio, Garmin, spectrum analyzer, cell phone charger, as well as my laptop in a pinch. Not all at once, of course. Am I missing a part? Does anyone have a fix for this? Unless I use both hands and a whole lot of careful wiggling, I always pull the electrical guts clear out of the counsel. Awfully cheap way to mount the rear 12 volt convenience outlet imho. Jim |
This issue should be covered under your factory warranty.

I replaced my shorted front convenience outlet with a 3M brand one from Walmart - worked great after some minor trimming, and 1/5 the cost of the Ford part. It's a screw-together design that won't pop out like yours is, but you'll have to do some custom wiring if you go this way.

As an interim step how about getting a cheap little cigarette lighter extender / adapter ?
that way you are not where out your permanent 12v receptacle ? Amazon.com: 12v extension I actually use something like that all the time to protect the factory one, and these cheapies are easily replaced :) |
