2010 5.4 engine issues?

Do the 2010 5.4 motors still have any issues like the cam phasers or the spark plugs breaking upon removal? I'm looking at a 2010 F150 4x4 but I didn't want the headaches that might go with it since it has 80k miles

Not really, none that I have heard of. 80k in 2+ yrs is puttin' some miles on it now, how much they asking? I'm driving an 05 F250 5.4 work truck right now that will turn 169k tomorrow, and I see it has a new exhaust manifold and alternator. The rest looks dirty like it hasn't been apart and it still runs good. Not sure if thats still the 2 valve? Probably is, but the superintendent I'm working for has an 09 5.4 with 110k on it and no issues that I know of. Spark plug issue was resolved in 06 or 07 maybe? HTH

2010 5.4L is as good as it gets for this engine in an F150. Spark plug issue was corrected or at least made better with a redesigned head in Nov. 07.

The truck is a regular cab and the only thing that I don't like about it is the truck is that metallic blue that I'm not fond of but they are only asking $13900. I just didn't know if the cam phasers and plugs were still an issue. Thanks

80k on a 2010 and still asking 13900? something don't sound right. thats 40k a year or close to it but hey i would see if they would go down to 10,000. all they can say is no.
i love my 2010 XLT 4X4 screw cab. i think it pulls better than my bosses 11 5.0 and it seems to ride better than his as well. never have i had eny of the isusses you asked about but my 2010 only has 28k on the clock.

I would definitely go in with a lower offer as well. 80K on the engine itself isn't a really issue for me if I can see the maintenance history on the truck.

Greg B 05-15-2012 07:40 PM

As Tim has stated, 80K miles isn't a big deal on the 5.4L engines. But don't forget the rest of the truck. That's 80K miles wear and tear on the transmission, wheel bearings, ball joints, shocks, and a host of other parts that work to make the truck perform well. All of those parts are getting closer to needing replacement. I would offer less for that reason if the truck has a clean OASIS and Carfax reports.

should not be, they cleared up the plugs issue in November of 07 with new head designed.
as for the cam position thing it to is not a issue i don't know actual dates ford addressed it.

Yeah I agree with the above posters. That seems like a lot of money for a regular cab with that many miles on it. Let us know what happens.

80k miles should not be an issue. I put close to 100k on my 09 with 35" tires and never had an issue with trans, balls joint, tie rods or anything with the powertrain. It was just sold from the dealer to a friend of mine for 21k out the door and he loves it.

blueovelboy 05-16-2012 01:02 PM

if i saw that truck i would ask for a cheeper price! knowing what i do about fords its a good truck as long as last owner didnt beat on it to hard! hey its on a used lot haggle with thim and never pay what thay are asking. ill bet they got it for way less than they are asking for it!

dealer paid mine off. 21,500. then turned around and put on new tire and windshield. They had it on the lot for 23,500 but let it go for 21.

I was thinking either they stuck it to you on the new truck, or sold the new owner of your old truck at a loss. Then weaseled them into a 10 year financing deal at 80% interest + ext warr, under coating, lo-Jack and the entire kitchen on top of the sale price. Otherwise a dealer isn't in business to take a loss.

04XLTRUNNER 05-16-2012 04:46 PM

they didnt stick me. they took a loss and they knew they would. Manager told me himself when he got me in my new one. We bought 3 different trucks in 1 day so it didnt really hurt them to bad. 2012 f350 lariat 4x4 dually, 2012 xlt supercrew, and my lariat supercrew. We do A LOT of business with this dealer and they always help us out and we send new customers their way. And when I said 21k, i meant after ttl and everything. that was out the door. buddy said he was going to offer 17 for it.

Unless you paid more than invoice, dealer lost money on that deal.
