O2 Sensor Location

Hey All,

I am new to this forum and need some help. My 2001 3.0L V6 Escape check engine light went on, we had it checked and it came back that I need to replace the bank 1 downstream O2 sensor. I found both of the sensors under the engine, but I don't know which of the two that I saw was the correct one. Can someone please help me out?

Thanks
Mike

Bank 1 downstream would be the sensor after the converter on the bank closest to the firewall. Upstream would be ahead of the converter. Bank 2 is the front bank of 3 cylinders, #'s 4,5,6. I think there would be another sensor near the final converter in the exhaust pipe.

Fault codes NEVER tell you to replace a part. They are only a data element that must be used as part of a diagnostic procedure.

Your vehicle has four O2 sensors....

In most cases an O2 sensor is just the messenger of how things are running unless the code is for the heater within the sensor itself, in which case it can be the O2 sensor itself or the circuit that feeds it.
