what did this dana 60 come out of?!
 

I have a Dana 60 rear axle and i cant find out what it came out of. Usually there is a BOM number on the ratio tag that is bolted on the differential cover. There is a tag but it only has these numbers:

C5TA RD 2679-1 410

decoded says 1965 ford truck chassis....4:10 ratio
i think the 2679-1 is a part number?

usually there is BOM number on these aluminum tags, but this one just does not have one. I know to look on the axle tube also for the BOM number but this is all there is on the right tube if you looking at the diff cover:

77 5C1 2679 1

there is also a casting # C30255
and
patten numbers
US PAT 2018188
US PAT 1988618

Ford ID tag: C5TA-RD = Spicer/Dana 60 / 4.10-1 / non Limited Slip / 5,200 lb. Rear Axle Capacity

Axle housing ID tag number: C5TA-RD = Ford part number: C5TZ-4010-G / 1965/66 F250 2WD / 11 degree spring pad angle.

2679-1 = Spicer/Dana part number / No BOM on ID tags of trucks of this vintage.

Now you know what trucks it was used in, but you're gonna need more info than that to ID the brakes/drums and etc.

What size are the rear brakes shoes, 12 1/8" x 2" or 12" x 2 1/2" ?

1966 was the first year Ford offered 12" x 2 1/2" brakes, standard equipment on 1966/72: F250 Camper Specials, and with GVW's of 7500 & 8100 lbs.

1966/72 F250's with the 6100 GVW have 12 1/8" x 2" brakes as do...all 1953/65 F250's.

Hello I saw your above post and thought maybe you could help me with the following question. I am trying to ID the rear axle in my '97 E350. I couldn't find a BOM but in the web around the cover I found the following casting numbers....Rear said AC on both sides at the top and 47510 in the lower left. Front showed 248-011 on both sides at the top and 7114 in the lower right. I think its a Dana 60 but want to learn more about it from the numbers.

Casting numbers are foundry marks, cannot be cross referenced to Ford part numbers.

1997 E350 with SRW (Single Rear Wheels) could have either a Dana 60 or a Dana 70, both look pretty much the same. There are different sized ring gears associated with each type.

I need the AXLE code to determine which axle it has.

The AXLE code is printed on the Certification Label that is glued on. Also has the VIN and many other codes printed on it. Could be on the B pillar below the striker plate, or on the face of the left door.

Dana rear axle ID tag located under one of the bolts that retains the inspection cover to the housing.

There may be an additional Dana axle ID tag: 2" x 1/2" metal tag bolted to the housing adjacent to the inspection cover. Will have a 7 or 8 digit Dana ID number stamped on it, like 603010-1 or 603010-11.

Post the codes.

I haven't found any tags on cover bolts or anywhere else but I have looked for the BOM code on the right axle tube and can't see one but I will try to clean it and power wash it to see if that helps. The axle code on the sticker inside the driver's door is 34. Here are other numbers from the bottom of that sticker:
WB = 138
BRK = C
INT = D2
R = 9
AXLE = 34
TR = E
SPR = LS

One more thing the rear GAWR on that same sticker is 6084 lbs if that helps.

34 = Dana Rear Axle (E250/350) / 3.73-1 / no Limited Slip / 6,340 lbs. Rear Axle Capacity.

But which Dana? With the 6,340 lb. capacity, I doubt it's a Dana 70.

Contact local dealer, pass along your VIN. When it's typed into FoMoCo's computer system, the rear axle type will be known.
