200 swap in econoline

I am looking at picking up a 1965 falcon van. It has a 170ci with a three on the tree. There is also a 200ci and auto out of a mid/late 70's fairmont with 90 thousand miles available.
My thoughts are; Is this swap worth the extra work of rebuilding the 200 or stick with rebuilding 170? Is swapping in the auto from the car more hassle then worth or do I need an auto trans specific to vans?

Thanks

The Fair mount might have a longer tailshaft housing and shaft than the Econo.

The tape measure will tell the tale.

Check the 200 for bell to trans pattern also. There is some overlap between the "Falcon six" and SBF pattern on the 200. Not sure if the cross over 200s will take either bell or not.

That will only matter if you decide to use your existing trans.

The 200 is a better motor, 7 mains vs. 4, more displacement obviously....

Also, find out what auto is behind the 200. Possibly the C5, which is similar to the C4 but with a lock up TC iirc.

Worth it? Either way, the motor is coming out. I think the change to an auto vs. the 3 speed would be welcome.

Thanks for the info. I will look at the trans when I get a chance.

Ed, be aware that this 1965 "Falcon" Van is really an Econoline.

Ford stuck Falcon emblems on 1961/67 Econolines, but they ain't Falcons in any way, shape or form.

You won't find any parts listed for any 1961/67 Falcon Van or Falcon Pickup in any passenger cars parts catalog.

200's have 7 mains, 144/170's have 4.

ND, does the "Falcon" van share anything with the car, wagon, ranchero vehicle other then the engine? Thinking like badges, interior pieces, etc?
