Scrap Value???
 

hey all,

my buddy is looking to scrap his 86 f250 4x4 6.9 idi autotrans extended cab long box and was curious how much he should expect in scrap. it also has a v plow on it. not sure what axles but i would assume dana 44 ttb.

the yard i called said scrap was at $140 a ton and that seemed very low to me.

looking for a safe estimate on the actual weight of this old girl.

Steel scrap is low now. You could wait and it may get to $200/ton. But at $140, that would be about $450 for the truck.

Why scrap? Maybe someone can use the parts? Is it a rusted out hulk? Where is it?

There is never a good reason to scrap one of these trucks.

I agree with not scrapping the truck.... but on that note. I took a long box from my 84 (about 500 lbs) and about 500 lbs of other scrap parts (frame, mist mounts, etc) from the frame my flatbed came off of to the scrap yard and got $90 for it. They were paying $180/ton and I had 1000lbs.

At least take it to a salvage yard and let us pick it apart as we need.

Around me they go for around $500 complete (must have battery, alt, cat ect). They can go up to $1000 depending or vheicle and yard. Most yards also offer free pickup. I have seen some decent cars go to the scrapper. It's sad...

I scrapped an 83 F250 last summer no bed, no engine, most of the dash and interior removed, price was about $240 a ton, got $450 en-total and wished 100 times i never sold it cause I was looking something for my 80!
