gas mileage 2012 F250 6.2L? pros/cons?
I am looking at buying a new truck sometime this year and I went to the dealer today and took a new f250 for a spin. It was nice, but I am going to drive this truck a lot and I am wondering about mileage. At my work we have a few 5.4L and they get about 14/15 mpg ...of course the dealer says they get much better but I was wondering if anyone had any real work experience with a new 2011/12 6.2L?
I was looking at an extra cab 4x4 6.5' bed xlt and 3.73 gear Thanks all Pete |
I drive a 2011 f250 4x4 cc sb with the 3.73 gears city I'm getting 10.5 highway around 16

boy that is what i was afraid of... looks like i may have to do a f150 ecoboost for amount I drive.
thanks, pete |
It's definitely no Prius! lol Check down in the 6.2 forum, lots of mpg threads.
FWIW- I haven't reset the trip B indicator on my truck since I bought it. It's at 10.3mpg since I've owned it. My driving is mostly to/from work which is almost 50/50 city/hwy. Nothing but hills out here in western PA and I'm heavy on the throttle (4.30 gears). |
i averaged 12.9 mostly highway (running about 65-75mph) w/ 3.73s and stock size bfg ats.

I try to get low fuel consumption and can't quite get 14 MPG in mixed driving and think I can get 18 on the road at ~60 MPH. This is on an '11 supercab with the short bed, unloaded, and barely more than 1,000 miles on the odometer. I don't know if it matters but this is at about 6,000 feet above sea level.

If you need to get 14/16 then go with the F150 Ecoboost. The 6.2 will not yield those numbers unless you drive 55 with a tailwind. These trucks weigh up to 7500 lbs empty, they are big and not very aerodynamic. I got 13.8 today on the highway doing 70, but I do have a crew cab and 4x4. The F150 is a good truck and if you check out those forums there is a lot of info on what it can do for you.

that is horrible mpg! my 2004 F350 ext cab short bed with 4.30 gears, 5.4 gets 12mpg around town and between 16 to 17 highway doing 70 mph. Looks like i wont be looking at a new Super Duty any time soon

You have to give up something to get something. The 6.2L has 130 more HP and 55 lbs. more torque. So yes the mileage is not that good but that's not why you buy them.
Look Great :-jammin:-jammin |

New 400 HP Mercedes is using less fuel than 120 HP Mercedes from 25 years ago in the same size car. 15 years old Sprinters are getting over 20 mpg. |

10mpg, a $600 month payment, $150 a week in gas as of today's prices? Thats not getting alot when my little 5.4 tows my backhoe just as easy as that new 6.2 does. Sometimes wish i could get a new crew cab F350 though....
