Edelbrock aluminum FE heads
 

Any body purchase these? Are they worth the $1500 IYO?

Id like to know also, people will say that cast heads will flow just as good but they don't mention that with aluminum you can run higher compression, a bigger cam and still run pump gas. Unless your thinking of going beyond 10:1 comp I'd say stick with some slightly worked iron heads.

I do not own a set of these heads but from what I've been led to believe:

-If you were to need a set of heads, buy a good set of iron heads and have them rebuilt with larger valves, springs, seats, etc etc the costs of the r&r approaches the cost of brand new Edelbrocks.

-If you only want 400-450hp Either type of head is suitable, sadly the iron heads are ending in power whereas the Edelbrocks can be ported for the 450hp+ area.

For myself, I have a set of C1AE heads that I worked over with cj valves, porting, etc etc I will use them while I save up for a set of worked over Edelbrocks for the future. This is a performance application, if I was just looking for cheap stock replacement, I'd be hitting the junkyard or craigslist for usable D2TE heads.

Unless you worried about casting dates, like mentioned by the time you freshen up a set of steel heads, the Eboks are ready to go.

I run a set on my race car, they aren't too fancy with mild port work(280 int, 220 exh), 2.15 Int and 1.65 Exh(I think? have to check) Dove HD rockers. Very nice heads, I bought mine bare and assembled them for my application. I've had them 12 yrs now.

You can make stock heads work fairly well and if you can do work yourself it will be cheaper. It all depends.

My opinion: For the street and mild/moderate HP needs, the stock iron heads are fine. For all out performance/racing use, the Edelbrock (or other aftermarket) aluminum heads start to shine.

It really depends on what you intend to do with the engine, and what your budget is. As the saying goes, speed is a question of money. How fast can you afford to go?
