Just thought I'd update on mine, I posted a long time ago when it had 245K. Mon-Fri service van, '03 E150 5.4 two valve w/4R75W, no new issues other than had to replace the PCV valve @255,000. Got that annoying rattling/bearing noise their know for. Aside from that, two C.O.P.s, one alternator and a fuel pump. No plug popouts. Just rolled 280,000 two days ago with no signs of slowing down anytime soon!

Another milestone, I rolled it 300,000 last Friday on a 400mi round trip. I'm very pleased with the 5.4 2V longevity, it really is a fantastic engine. The 4R75 trans is still stock too and just keeps going. No new mechanical issues other than the heat shields on the exhaust rattle all the time and I can't seem to figure out which one it is lol. 300,700 miles today and the HVAC fan switch melted and stuck on med-hi, go figure :-roll
Was an excellent $500 investment that has paid me back at every turn. |
....I love to hear these stories!! I just turned 150k on my 2001, and I still love her to death! We always hop in the crewcab and away we go! she needs new lower rocker panels, but otherwise, I think I would drive it across the 50 states in a heartbeat!

159,200 on a 2003 Merc, Mountaineer 4.6L V8 and its acting really weird. IAC was replaced to make it quit stalling out and now it high idles on start up (2000+) and when you come to a stop it sits at 1200 then drops to 800 or so. Cleaned the throttle body and the MAF when I pulled the IAC, with their respected CRC cleaners...this is will drive a man to drink, heavily.

My 06 van has 260k kilometers on the 2V 4.6L and the motor and 4R75w trans run as good as new with a fresh set of Motorcraft plugs. The motor idles smooth and makes good power for a 4.6:D, it neither burns nor leaks oil or any other fluid and the trans shifts perfectly. Working on this thing is more complicated than doing the same on an older motor but it does deliver better gas milage than the old 5.0 so maybe it's not all bad

My 2002 F150 has 209K Kms on it
My 2006 F250 has 199K Kms on it My 2008 F250 has 299K Kms on it my 02 has been fantastic, engine runs like a champ no major issues just maintenance stuff, plugs cops, belt, alternator etc my 06 has been great, but just developed the cam phaser or guide or tensioner issue which will be addressed soon my 08 has also been a great truck, it has however developed an issue that has me contemplating either fixing it as it is, rebuilding it or dropping a crate engine in it. It's been a workhorse and has never left me by the side of the road... actually all the trucks have ( except my 02 when the alternator died on me :-X04 ) So I cant say my experiences have been bad with the 5.4, so far I think I have made out pretty good with them I did have a 04 6.0 that was passed on to me it had 498K Kms on it, but it was starting to leak oil from the bed plates , but that many kilometers on it and it never burned oil, but sold it to someone that was looking for the engine parts for a rebuild of their own 6.0 that was in an accident. So never went to the wreckers at least |

Hi !
I'm Mike and I'm from Warsaw, Poland. Bought 2004' 5.4 2V Eddie Bauer Expedition and thought it would be easy to take care of it...but in European reality it is not so obvious No proffesional service, spare parts and mechanics usually tells me - What's that ? Now I'm trying to solve problem with fuel pump relay (burned second time in 3 months), missfires (sparks and colis are travelling to Poland) and few leaks (power steering). I've got also problem with criuse control as it's not responding - no on, off - steering wheel buttons are not running it... Car is fantastic and I'd like to run it for a long time, but it's hard to take care of it cause of those small nuances. And about the milage - 190000miles / 300000km :-) Cheers !! |
7 Fleet trucks one with 250k and the rest over 300k all stock drive train.
