Adding Aux Input to Factory Radio, Anyone Done?

Has anyone tackled this or heard of anyone doing this? I just saw this company selling a bunch of Ford radios on eBay so it must be fairly easy to do. Here is a link to an example: Ford 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 Super Duty Radio AM FM CD with IPOD aux input | eBay

Found a Chevy forum that soldered a cable in where the Left and Right channels for the tape deck went on the circuit board. I do have a tape deck that I never use. Wonder if that is possible. Anyone have a wiring schematic for the radio? Here is the link for the Chevy forum: Diy aux input on a factory radio - PerformanceTrucks.net Forums

Have you tried Crutchfield? They sell AUX adapters. Check iPod/iPhone/iPad and USB Adapters

No just trying to keep cheap and simple. If not just may buy a new aftermarket head unit.

Depending on which radio you have, this article might work for you.

Ya I don't have a CD changer unit, just a CD/Tape unit.

Also that interface is $85, can buy a super cheap new head unit for that price. They are selling the modified factory radios for $145 on eBay so it can't cost that much to build those setups.

If they do have an adapter that will work it will be a helluva lot cheaper than a new head unit. Simpler too.

There are 2 adapter 1 works on 1998 to 2004 Ford radios with a CD button FRDN-AUX
If there is a SAT button you can use the pie frd03-aux/s or frdn-aux/s
both will allow you to input perfect clear audio into the original radio

I have the Crutchfield adapter and it works just fine. I figure no one will want to steal my '01 OEM radio.

someone on the forum has a pretty good writeup modifying their stock stereo to add a $10 aux input jack to their factory radio. I came across it once but didnt save it.

this is the way to go and they work great. a member here was gracious enough to part with one they were no longer using. it needed some slight repairs, but have been perfect since.

FM modulators are ok (and cheap), but they do not provide the crystal clear audio like these adapters.
