transmission temp sensor
2005 f-250
tow/haul light flashing and check trans temp shows up on display. transmission goes into limp mode shifts really bad and also throws its self in and outta gear im guessing my temp sensor has gone bad. should i change the sensor and the internal harness? am i on the right track to fixing the problem or am i completley wrong |
You're most likely right. I recommend changing both the sensor and the internal harness. 90% of the time it's the sensor, but it should would be annoying if it were the harness this time!

What is the service history on the tranny? Type of fluid, mileage on changes, flushes, external filter change etc.
|
i have around 90k ont the and the transmission was rebuilt around 50k
that was the last time the fluid and filter were changed i use motorcraft mercron sp fluid |
Rebuilt at 50,000! Do you tow super heavy? I thought these trannys were good to 150,000 plus.
|
some how water got inside the transmission either from the coolant lines or maybe from launching boats. it was a big surprise to me aswell
|
These transmissions are good for 250,000+ miles if water doesn't get inside.

You are past due for a tranny flush and external filter change. Every 30,000 miles min.
I'd rather be safe than sorry as 60,000+ of the 80,000 miles on the trk have been towing our 1/5 whl trailer with a combined weight at 21,200lbs. which is a pinky over the max. gross for the trk. If we didn't tow as much at the max. gross then I'd go with the recommended 30,000 change interval.:-X22 |
Does any one have a picture of where the sensor is located so I'll know just what Im looking for when I go to change it
