Engine rebuild kit for 390

I've got a '73 highboy with a worn out 390 coupled to a 4 speed tranny. I'm looking for advice and insight into what would be a good and economical rebuild kit for this motor.

It would be nice to get some more horsepower out of it also but I know that would probably throw the "economical" aspect of it out the window. I want it to be dependable but still have decent horsepower and torque.

Any ideas??

Thanks.

Sure!

How about 445 cubic inches of bowtie-crushing FE power? Talk to Barry Rabotnik at Survival: http://www.survivalmotorsports.com/

Don't waist your time, drop a 460 in and call it a day. Cheaper, more power, and easier to find parts.

Survival has a complete 390 rebuild kit for $700. Not too shabby.

Don't believe that just dropping in any 460 will automatically be cheaper and more powerful. In stock form all the 70s and 80s engines are kind of doggy with all the emission regulations put on them. If you want 400hp or less then rebuild the 390. If you want more than that, then the 460 swap starts to become the better option $$wise the further past 400hp you go.

Jeremy, yes that's what I'm looking for. Not looking to makes gobs of power just want something that's gonna be reliable with a decent amount of power on tap.

I was thinking the same thing about the Survival rebuild kit.
