Considering Propane Conversion - have question about heads burning out
 

Hi everyone, this is my first post to this forum. I am considering a conversion to liquid Propane dual gasoline fuel system for my 2009 Ford Edge (V6, 3.5L).

I've talked to the conversion company, and I've talked to my Ford dealer about it. The dealer is telling me that they deal with many Propane vehicles, and that I can expect to replace my cylinder heads every 100,000km or so, at a cost of approx. $3000-$5000 :-X18 And he advised me to replace them for "hardened" heads which will last 200,000km but will still eventually need replacing.:-roll

I then called the conversion company up, and they told me that the dealer doesn't know too much about the conversion process, and that with proper tuning of the air/fuel mixture (not too lean or rich) that the temperature should be okay for the engine to handle, and they went on to say that they have converted taxis that have run for a million kilometers on Propane without any troubles.

Whom should I believe?! Because of this issue, I am sitting on the fence about whether or not to convert. Does anyone have any experience in this regard, or can anyone offer an informed opinion on this? Thank you kindly for any help.

Most modern engines properly set up will handle the conversion without any issues. That being said you can burn/drop a valve on gasoline. The key is maintaining your system filters clean etc. I have owned a few Lp units and worked in the industry for a "few" years and never had any issues.

Thanks gasman! That's what I was hoping to hear. I'm not sure why the Ford dealership would try to scare me away from a propane conversion? By the way, by keeping my filters clean, you mean the propane filter which has to be done every 80,000km or some other filter?

Propane filter, air filter, the vaporizer if used will need to be serviced every 50,000 or so.
Basically just maintain iy and you shouldnt have any problems.
