78-79 F250/350 Dana 60 front axle

Fellas, I know many people are looking for one of these, but I have to ask: do any of you have one for sale or no of where one is at??? I found one about a 100 miles from me, found out the guy is jerking me around. He won't even give me his name, come to find out it's because two other guys are interested. Thanks Gents. Shane

You can say that again. Here in the rust belt they are tough to get rid of & shipping kills any deal. I've never payed any more than $300 for a complete parts truck with one and after the last one I said never again unless it's free. Even then I'd have to think about it because I can't sell a single other part off of it. I know where there is one sitting now and I don't want it.

Are you guys serious? I drove four hours to get one for 800 bucks! The cheapest ones that pop on CL around here are 1500! Sign me up to get one for 300! Haha

Sleepy445FE 02-03-2012 07:00 PM

^^No kidding! I can't find one here (in the entire state of TX) and everything listed anywhere else is $1000-1500 and the wrong gear. PM sent WARHORSE.

Agreed. Oklahoma is tapped out as well. I'm sure there's a few laying in a yard somewhere, but I haven't found them.

Shipping doesn't neccesarily have to be a deal killer, there was a member here about a year ago who used "uShip" to ship a D60 cross country to his place of work for under $200

uShip - The Online Shipping Marketplace - Ship Freight, Furniture, Cars or Moves

I never shipped an axle, but parts for the farm machinery was always $200-400 and it was always lighter and smaller than an axle.

spikinfool05 02-03-2012 09:05 PM

so what are you asking for it if i may ask

1972RedNeck 02-03-2012 09:24 PM

What is the difference between one of these and a newer one?

They are pretty much a direct bolt in without much modification at all compared to newer ones which require fabrication.

1972RedNeck 02-03-2012 10:16 PM

How would I identify one compared to a newer one?

BobbyShane 02-04-2012 12:12 AM

I tried PMing you as asked, it said that you don't have the room, lol

I'd appreciate it if you could give me some more info WARHORSE: do you have the BOM number off of one or two of those 78-79 Dana 60 fronts that you have laying around? How much are you asking for one?? Can you tell me anything about the general shape that they are in? Thanks, Shane

I got a shipping quote a couple of months ago for a complete engine with 2 extra set of heads, totaled about 750lbs, and it was only $150 from CA to TX from UniShippers. That's with both places having a loading dock. It would be more to deliver to a residential address. Still, CHEAP!!! I already pm'd you WARHORSE, lol sorry BobbyShane, look forward to a response.

i am sorry I had so many PMs on that axle i had to reply then empty and reply again so it took a few minutes but i think I have sent you some answers. I got in trouble for info on items for sale in the forums so any reply will be via PM. What on earth are the BOM? I have never heard of this. They are high pinion front d60s from 78 f250 or 79 f250 or 350. I got my first front 60 for free, it had been through a fire and sold it one day later for $500, got the next one for $1700 for whole truck and drove for years then scrapped. baught a 79 f250 with a 429 and a new steering box and a front 60 for $1000 and drove it home, needed clutch and i scrapped it. I baught a 78 f250 with a front 60 for $700 drove it on trailer and hauled it home, engine oil pump drive was not in oil pump but wedged in the side and the "rebuilt" 400 was junk, the c6 had been cranked in with bolts and bellhousing was broken off totally, I kept front and rear 60s transfer case, steering column and wheels, rest got junked. I baught a 79 f350 4x4 in CA 2 years ago for $2700 and it had new paint, 85,000 miles, all original, lariat, drove it for 2 years and recently sold it to a gentleman in NC sight unseen for $6000. Baught a 79 f350 for $1200 and drove it for year and a half and sold frt and rears for $1200 flatbed for $200, scrapped rest out for a few hundred. Baught a front 60 off a guy's trailer at the scrap yard for $150 He said that it was worth $1000 but He couldn't find anyone to give $500 so he pounded it out. I saw a 79 f350 in our local scrap yard with a front 60 and since the cash for clunkers they are prohibited to sell any auto parts. I saw the front hub sticking out of a bale of crushed cars one day in town on a semi headed to Denver. Sad Sad Sad. I save all I can.
