Morning Indiana and all of our IN friends!

Been catching up on some work this morning...traveling back to back days really puts me at a disadvantage work wise...so I had to catch up this morning with about 3-4 hours of work already!!!...but I'm caught up now so that's good!

Wind is still blowing like crazy here this morning...brrrr...I was hoping to burn a cigar today and let Aspen run outside for her to burn off some energy...she LOVES to run...but we'll have to see how that dang blasted wind is later today.

Good news on the maple sugar shack...it is in production!...I heard from my buddy...he's been gathering sap and has been boiling...no syrup yet but he's getting close...I plan to take the girls out there this coming weekend to show them how to gather sap and boil...I think they will like seeing how syrup is made!

Have a great day everyone!

Sorry for my absence lately...

Joe.

Congrats on the job Pat! :-drink

Weekend has been going pretty well aside from my wife scrubbing the front bumper of my truck with the side of my Windstar while leaving the driveway. My son and I watched it happen out the window. Not a nice feeling. There's a small dent in the bumper on the drivers side of the truck and the van has a 3 foot scratch down the passenger side slider. Not a big deal since the drivers side is kinda rusted out anyway but it was nice to still have ONE good side left! Oh well.

Her Mountaineer is in the shop for trans work so she's driving the van for now. Hopefully there won't be any more modifications to the exterior this week.

Morning Indiana and all of our IN friends!

Dave...sorry about the friendly fire incident in your driveway...LOL...we've had some close calls in ours and it will only get worse as our daughters start to drive in the next few years...I'm NOT looking forward to it!...

Well...today's our 15th annual Daytona 500 get together at our house.

We'll have 30+ folks here today just hanging out drinking and enjoying each others company...the race is just the excuse to get together!...looks like a beautiful day too!!!

I'll be making my stromboli's again...I've already mixed up my dough and it is rising as I type.

For those that don't know about my stromboli's...here's some photos I took last year and posted for everyone...so it is a refresher...

It starts out as a rolled out dough with some sauce

http://inlinethumb33.webshots.com/44...600x600Q85.jpg

You then put on pepperoni and italian sausage

http://inlinethumb57.webshots.com/48...600x600Q85.jpg

Followed by cheese and a little egg wash around the edges to help seal it up and then start rolling it up...

http://inlinethumb03.webshots.com/46...600x600Q85.jpg

Here's two rolled up and ready to bake...(you brush the remaining egg wash over the dough prior to baking to give it a nice browning effect while baking)

http://inlinethumb41.webshots.com/44...600x600Q85.jpg

Here they are all baked (365° to 375° for 30-40 minutes until browned nicely)

http://inlinethumb38.webshots.com/45...600x600Q85.jpg

And when you slice them up...here's what they look like

http://inlinethumb59.webshots.com/39...600x600Q85.jpg

They are very easy to make...last year I know a few folks tried them and loved them!

A little barbecue dipping sauce and you're all set!...enjoy.

Talk to everyone later.

Joe.

I will Joe, most guys that like to cook are great cooks, my brother does all the cooking, he get home a little early then his wife, but he is an outstanding cook!

X_Hemi_Guy 02-26-2012 07:10 AM

Well...you can throw these Stromboli's together and BLOW HIS MIND one day...they are that easy to make.

To make the dough...it is simple. This amount if for ONE Stromboli...double it for 2 and on and on...(on the yeast though...1 package of yeast will be enough for a doubled batch...any more doubling than that...add more yeast)

2 cups of flour
2/3 cup of warm water
1 package of yeast
a dash of salt
1 - 2 tablespoons of olive oil

Mix all together until you have a ball of dough.

Let rise for 30-60 minute (or more)

Punch down after about 60 minutes

Roll out the dough as I did above in the pictures.

You will need to prepare the ingredients.

Brown the sausage the night before is easiest.

Cut up the pepperoni into small squares helps too.

I have yet to have anyone NOT like this and it really is very easy to make...well worth the effort!

Good luck!

joe.

These are fairly large.

I typically put 1# of sausage and 8 ounce of pepperoni and 8 ounces of cheese in EACH Stromboli...so they are solid...

I typically cut them into 1" slices and I can get 8-10 slices...each slice will fill you up equivalent to about 2 slices of pizza if that helps...

You can estimate 1 Stromboli if you are "feeding" people to be enough for 3-4 normal eating people...we normally use these as "snackers" more than "meals" because we have all kinds of other food too.

But as a main meal for normal peeps eating...3-4 is a good estimate...remember they have a LOT of filling with all that sausage and pepperoni and cheese inside...they weigh a LOT when rolled up!
