best topper
what topper do you all reccomend in the freezing north that will freeze up the least.

As the Peragon is built in the frozen north I'd go for that..... and I've seen over 2' of snow on mine....

I'm from Canada and I just ordered an A.R.E. "Z" series.
Z Series Truck Caps : A.R.E. Truck Caps and Tonneau Covers http://www.4are.com/img/2010/global/...s/z_series.jpg They're slick looking with a pile of options available, and apparently rock solid. (Pretty pricey though, I'm into mine for around $3k CAD) I had a Leer on my '06 and the latches gave me fits. |
Thanks I'll look at the ARE next time

I can't guarantee that the topper on my 06 is a Leer. I'm at work right now and my 06 is at home. Either way I told myself when I ordered one for my 2012 that I'd make sure the latches weren't just a push button with cables going to either latch. I found that the cables stretched and got loose over time and then a guy's forever adjusting them.
Whichever one you consider I think the frameless side windows make a big difference towards a sharper looking canopy. This is my 06 with the canopy: http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...t/DSC02769.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...t/DSC02771.jpg |
Evilsports, that is a nice looking rig!

I know she's been great to me too, never left me stranded once. I hate to sell it, but my 2012 fits in the garage and the 06 sits on the driveway. One of them's gotta go. (The only other option is trying to keep both and likely waking up to see my wife poised over me with a machete)

Never a good feeling...LOL

I live in Wisconsin and I have a 15 year old Lakeland.

A few pictures of the A.R.E. topper on my 2012.
I like the fitment equally to my Leer, I prefer the latching and hardware on my new topper though. http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...4/IMAG0323.jpg http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/l...4/IMAG0324.jpg |
I'm in Montana, ordered a A.R.E. CX Series, it's going to be here tomorrow and installed tomorrow. I'll let you know what I think about it when I get it.

Not sure if all would consider northern lower Michigan the "frozen north", but I've had a Century, 3 Ravens, and now an A.R.E. on my 150. They were all faultless, except for the Century, and that was only because of that not very well thought out centre latch handle. I learned my lesson there, and on all caps I've had since, they all had the T handle located on each corner of the hatch. There's noo cables or really anything else to freeze up, stretch or fall apart. I guess if someone was really hard on their equipment, something could be busted. The last Raven I had for over twelve years on my last SuperDude. I did have to have the hatch window replaced when some peckerweed just let it slam closed at -10F. But you can't fault Raven for that.
BTW, most windows and hatches are only manufactured by a handful of brands, so really, what's on one brand of cap, you'll see on another.:-drink |
In Colorado it can get pretty cold during winters, so it may qualify. I got a Camper Shell made by the Coach Exchange (out of business) bought brand new with the truck, still in good shape for a piece of fiberglass 20 years old.
http://i1289.photobucket.com/albums/...DSCN0869-1.jpg Admittedly I have been looking at the Cyber truck cap from Jason Fiberglass recently, as a new topper is always nice to have. |
A.R.E Z series are nice looking
Just trying now to talk the wife into getting one. |
I have a Century Royal with carpet, dome light and 4 12 volts ports.
