what type of tranmision fluid 1978 f150
 
I have a 1978 f150 4x4 ranger xlt with an automatic tranmision. Check my fluid yesterday and it is not even on the dip stick:-arrgh what type of tranmision fluid do i need to put in?

Should use standard A.T.F.

Originally, it took type F. Many of the rebuild kits are now saying to use dexron/mercon. Type F is getting harder to locate these days.

thanks for the replies guys. my dad (who gave me the truck) said he thought it was dexron but wasnt sure. thanks for the help!!
