99 5.4 f250 fuel pump removal, help please
 

alrighty, I got the tank dropped and out ,the ring unspun and off,now I have the metal lid with the fuel hose connections and underneath the hoses and wires that go down to pump in the bottom of the tank. PROBLEM,,, I don't know how to get that part out!, I stopped at the ford dealer with a picture,and one of theirs said it might untwist counter clock wise,or the two tabs that are 180 degree's apart ,squeeze in on them and lift,, uh huh,,,, nope,, seriously, I work on turbines worth millions, but this is a FORD truck,,lol,,, anybody got any clue how to get that rascal out so I can change the pump and strainer????

, I know someone out there has had this battle,,,, right now, I got no wheels, my only means of transpo,,, thanks in advance by the way,,,BC

I did this a few years ago but I'm struggling to remember. As far as I recall you spin off the ring and that's it. Usually they stick a little bit due to the o-ring, but anything else escapes me.

Mine is different from yours friend, and thanks for the reply, my truck ,it is in two completely different piece's not one,, the ring is off!, I'm looking in the tank, the top part has the fuel connectors,and underneath the top part is hose's and wires that go down to the module ,the fuel pump in the bottom of the tank, it is stuck to the bottom of the tank by some means, if not it would just fly around in the tank, I WISH IT WAS ONE PIECE!!!!, ya, that would be great,,, I don" t know how the bottom portion is held to the bottom of the tank, hence my inability to remove it, a ford mechanic said maybe twist counter clockwise or push the two tall tabs inward and lift, but no success , I don't want to be overly forceful without knowing exactly how and what is holding it to the bottom of the tank, again thanks for the reply,, somebody has had this type of pump out there somewhere,, hopefully they will see this post and save my bacon

well, I got told wrong by the almighty ford guy,,, squeeze together and push DOWN to release. You are beyond helpful my friend, I will try that in the morning as it's sittin in the yard in the cold frigid grass right now.I will report the results. A huge Tennessee thank you to you,for your assistance. Greatly appreciated,, It's my first ford since 85, I dumped GM when they considered the tax payers as there private bank for fueling their private jet airplanes. Thanks again.

Brian, I owe you one buddy, all good up and running again, I will say, going back up that fuel tank, not so much fun, but once your in your fifties, you dont have the same get up and go you use to have, so thanks again for your help, and to anyone who ends up with what I have, this is here now. BTW , if you reach down the edge of the tab when you squeeze in , you'll find the bottom of the clip and you can pull out on it with your finger if it's lost some of it's flexibility with age,as mine did.I love this forum and the people here.
