Always like to see the underhood shots.

very nice, you dont see to many around with the fordomatic. i also notice you have the same problem as me with trying to keep the fuel line away from the exhaust pipe. and whats different about that gauge cover. did you have the thing chromed or polished? cant put my finger on it now. might have to go look at mine. thats a good question for buzz! how many different styles of dash inserts are there? painted? chromed? paint and chrome?
|
I picked up a Chrome one at a swap meet. The insert is a heavier/thicker material then the painted one that was in my truck.
|
yeah, I have to keep it out of the way with some copper wire for now, but hey it works .... when I replaced the carb the fuel line was attached to the other side so I couldnt use the metal fuel line. The gauge cover was on a parts truck I found this summer that I also got a front grille and headlight bezels, radio, various knobs and odds and ends from. It was painted white but missing some so I scraped the paint and polished it .

Mark, I'm guessing there were only two gauge faces, painted or chromed.I can see , on my chrome one, where the white paint has flecked off ,the underlying chrome.Do the painted ones have the underlying chrome?
The real expert is Andrew, Mr4speedford.He is a storehouse of knowledge on Fridges. He has about every piece of literature for our trucks. He has Ford Dealer Training Materials for their truck salesmen, including vintage training films. He's even got a gigantic salesroom banner! He's a busy guy who's not been on here too much recently, but he pretty much can answer any question with regards to particulars, i.e. Regular vs. Custom Cab, variations over the years of the Fridge era, upholstery trim levels. If we can persuade him to get his arse back on here, this new section of FTE will be the better for it. Incidentally, a few years ago, Joblots Automotive in Long Island, New York, who cater to the BIG JOB trucks, found a stash of NOS Custom Cab (white/chromed) Gauge faces. They went fast, think I paid about 50 bucks for the one I bought for my spares supply. |
