99-03 5.4l triton mpg
I believe in 04 they changed the 5.4l to the 3v engine, I'm having a tough time trying to find my 6.0 powerstroke I want and ran into a f250 with 52k original miles its a 2002
what type of mpg can be expected out of this type of setup? and what real world numbers are you owners seeing? the setup is a xlt f250 reg cab, 5.4l, 4x4, auto, 3.73 axle ratio thanks |
2004 was the transition year for the F150's. The SD's still had the 2V in 2004.
With my setup and my driving style and conditions, I get 14-15mpg pretty regularly. I've been in the 17's on a trip and I've been in the 10's around town. But 14-15 is the norm for me. |

These guys have given you a pretty good idea of the mileage. If I'm real careful on the highway I can get 14, around town it's 8. Never had any real trouble with the truck it does what I ask, maybe a little slower than a 6.0. You just can't bring up mileage and a 5.4 Super Duty in the same sentence. It's a working truck nothing like a half ton or make believe 3/4 ton Chebbie.

I get between 10 mpg (4 wheel drive around town) and 16 mpg (highway). 99 CC 4x4, 5.4, auto, 4.10's, 285 tires.
|
i get 10mpg in town maybe 12 hwy put on the plow and 4x4 5mpg truck gives good bang for my bucks
|
i can get 15mpg with my '99 f250 reg cab long box. its a 5pd manual with 4.10 non ls. i can cruise through town at 30mph in 5th gear lol kind sad.
too bad the guy who bought the truck right away didnt order 3.73s... |
i have an 03 f250 super duty ext cab auto with 5.4L 4x4 3.73 rear end and installed a k&n fipk and borla cat back exhaust. i use royal purple oil and just changed front and rear axle, trans axle and trans fluids to amsoil. i have michelin 275/75/16 tires getting 18 mpg on highway and around 12 in town.

My old 01 ext cab long box 5.4 got around 600km to a tank. 3.73 gears.
My 99 single cab long box 5.4 baby has a 9" lift with 40x14.50 tires and it gets around 400km to a tank. So around 12-13 for my 01 and 7-8 for my 99. |
I had a regular cab '01 with the 5.4 and a 5 speed, 2.5" lift and 315 x 75's that I got 19 with when running the passes from Durango Co to Grand Jct. It got 14 on a regular basis other than that one exception.
|
i've seen 7mpg (15k lbs+ 3rd gear going 65) and i've seen 17 on the highway unloaded. If you are just planning on driving the truck around with no load you should see 13-14 avg.
|
Consider this. I was looking at a new V-6 4x4 Ranger online today. The EPA estimated MPG was 18 MPG highway and 14 city. Based on that, my 5.4L does fine.
|
i see 10mpg city and 15mpg highway...
truck is a 2wd extra cab 6' bed... |
My '01 in my signature gets 12 - 13 combined. Best ever highway 15 mpg's.
