T444E water pump

In this pic what appears to be the water pump has a filter on it.

Could this water pump be attached to a powerstroke and have a filter attached?
Just saw the picture and made me think.

I see that at scrap where I get cheap part.

It look water pump but they had power steering pump above of HPOP pump I wonder why didn't Ford follow that idea.

Trey, it would fit physically but the return is on the opposite side, and the filter position wouldn't allow for the power steering pump to mount back onto our motors! Cool find though I haven't Serv one of them for years! That's a transverse mount model for Union City Chassis, short city or airport type shuttle busses, should have an Allison " VEE-DRIVE" transaxel somewhere around there!

I've seen that pump put on obs trucks & IIRC it was quite a bit of work to make it work.
Too much work to get a filter set up that just takes a few fittings & some hose & if IIRC the pump was a steel housing & quite a bit heavier than the Ford waterpump.

Anyone price that waterpump?

Comparison to the OEM 7.3 Pump. Notice the shut-off for changing the filter. Also the oulet is on opposite side.
Certainly looks to be made of steel.

Bolt pattern looks to be the same. Does the 444E have the same front cover?

I'll just stick to the Ford OEM and run ELC that does not require SCA.
The silicate drop out from SCA is what a coolant filter is primarily for.

The price on the site where I found this pic was $199.00.

cant tell if the rectangular opening is INTL's weephole or there WP dont have one...

On newer T444E's the water filter has a screw on block off plate. The filter was deleted when the Red coolant was used on models 3800 & 4300 trucks and busses.

Any of you think, this is where the by-pass coolant filter, originated for our PSD'z?

No, I suspect it originated with the more savvy diesel drivers that realized that their engine didn't have a filter, and knew it should have one. :)

It's not rocket science, and there are far easier ways to fit one......

It will fit, there is a few guys that have done it. Is it worth the trouble? I dont think so.

Skip1970 10-24-2011 07:56 PM

Huh?

No, it fits, you just need a new lower hose. And if I recall you had to grind on the pump itself to clear the belt housing.

I was curious about doing this myself, I do need to replace my water pump, and an aftermarket coolant filter kit is like $100. The discharge is on the opposite side putting it on the same side for the lower radiator hose. Has anyone ever seen it done for sure?
