Taillight options?
Hi!
I would like to have taillights with more light and was wondering if the Navigator ones would fit? Does anyone have other ideas of lights that don't look like ricer Eurolights? |
Isn't there an open section in these fixtures where a second bulb will fit? That topic never did get complete, or I missed it.
Also, there are sure to be brighter bulbs available for the existing sockets. -- Chuck |
If you are willing to drop some $$$, I would go for some good LED bulbs. The cheap ones are dimmer than halogens, but V-Leds have great products. The output will be higher and the instant on-off is alot more luxurious

V-Leds has one of the best quality products on the market
V-LEDS.COM | LED Dome, Map, License Plate, Reverse, DRL, Turn Signal, Brake Lights they have the switchback led's which are pretty cool, their white all the time but blink yellow when u turn on the blinker. They also have normal LED replacements. Regarding mine, I always make my own bulbs with the brightest emmiters available. On my infiniti I put 6 3Watt LED's for example. |
Will think about that. Any other ideas?

Do a full blown LED conversion with baked open tails, perfboard and a bunch of LEDs, resistors/solder.
Here is an example of how a guy with a vintage BMW did it. |
That and there is also the option to use a controller. High quality LEDs plus a controller will make them "holy effing shizer" bright when you hit the brakes. What the controller does is switch them off/on really fast so they appear to be on constantly when you just have the lights on with no brakes applied, just dimmer than they are when on full blast. Then when you hit the brakes the controller kicks off and they go full bright. I saw a guy do this with an older SHO Taurus but I can't find the thread...

well, the LED would be dim when the car has the lights on, but brighter as the brakes are applied. Same way halogens work
|
Ok will do that in a few months. Had to spend lots for other things this month.

Too bad those switchback are bright white when on. Amber is nicer as it's not a ricer ;) |
Well if you want just amber then get the normal led turn signal, and I would put a resistor ot you will get hyper blinking
