super cab rear seat options...

I have a 79 f250 4x4 super cab with the rear bench seat. What I'm looking to accomplish is to have a lifted seat, high enough to acomodate some sub woofers under them. I have looked in to the LMI product and that gets me 4" but I would like 6" lift. I do not care if the seats fold flat. I have also looked in to some newer model trucks rear seats and adapting them to the rear. Rear buckets facing front would be great because I could build a center console.

Anyone completed a project like this? Anyone swapped late model seats in? Please post photos if available!

I had thought of the same thing... but after looking at my rear seat I decided it just wasn't worth it. the factory seat has that intergrated back rest into the rear wall and its small enough already. If you raise it up (or go with another taller seat) you are going to be obscuring the view out the rear. As for a newer seat, most newer trucks are bigger in the back and the seats are too wide front to rear to give any leg room in the rear.

Now having said that, I had a 91 extended cab, and I know the front seats swap from 91 into the 77.. and iirc the bench in my 91 was taller and had more room under it than my 77. I remember this because the bottom of the bench flipped forward and there was a big storage area under it, and I found new in box fuel filters, engine belts, oil filters, all kinds of brand new motorcraft maintenance parts still in the carboard when I bought it. I looked around to try and find one like that when I was gonna build my sc but I couldn't find another, and the way the old 77 seat bolts in I just don't see how the 91 seat could bolt in the same, but I'm sure you could find a way if you were determined enough. I also looked at the third row benches from excursions and vans but they are just too wide front to rear and don't fit. Probably the best thing you could do is take a measuring tape and go to a junkyard with a lot of trucks and just start measuring stuff. You can also add some taller angle iron legs and etc to yours, but once you modify the seat bottom then you have to modify the back to match. Seems like more work than its worth to keep the rear bench. Eventually you will probably reach the conclusion that if you want subs in the back you will be better off chucking the rear seat and just putting subs back there.

Why not just forget the bench and put in the jump seats. I've been contemplating which I want to keep in mine when I get to that point. I like the bench better, but the jumps will leave me more room for a box.

I was thinking of splitting the rear seat to make 2 buckets out of it and build a center console type sub box...I wonder if I could modify the jump seats to face forward...hmmmm...

should be able to pretty easily if you make new brackets. Looking at them, they would only need two bolt holes each.

What I think I'm gonna end up doing is gutting the bottom bench piece and building it into a box. I should be able to get about 2' cubed out of doing that, more if I just make the bottom a little thicker. Might even be able to do the same to the back section. A pair of 10's will fit pretty nicely in that spot. :)

yeah I had thought about that too. It would be really neat if you could keep the folding feature though.

I'd still keep the folding feature, ;)

check out V10 crew's 79 f350 supercab build..he installed speakers in the side panel and did a great job on a modern rear bench seat upgrade
