VIN Locaiton

2 Attachment(s)
I have a 63 Unibody sitting on a 2003 Mercury Marauder Chassis. I have been working on this project for 2 years and now need to get the truck registered in CA. I want to register it as a 63 truck and avoid all the smog stuff. Problem is the old frame is gone and I understand their was a VIN tag on the frame. I have a VIN on the door but I am missing the VIN tag on the glove box (I think that is where it should have been).

Can anyone confirm the locations of where the VIN tags should have been and has anybody been through registering a old truck with a modern frame?

Thanks

Karl

I suggest to anyone who is thinking of building a project like this one, get the paperwork taken care of and the vehicle on a Planned Non-Op before you ever start unbolting things from original. Then as you cut and weld to build, make damned sure you keep the VIN with the vehicle as you go. That way there is never an issue of VIN.

Great Advice

I couldn't agree more. The frame I bought with this truck already had a Camaro front end grafted in and the VIN was already gone

Anybody else knowlegable about California DMV? i heard AZ was really lax on this stuff

If 63 it should be on the door. No vin on the glove box in 63. I have no ideas on how to deal with Californication DMV Im in Warshington St. Did you try Googling it? Ask.com you never know.
