Public Profile Suggestion

Has this been addressed in the past? We are constantly asking questions about "what do you have" in order to assist others in answering their problems. In the "About Me" profile there are only a couple items worthwhile, the rest are Race car items, not used. Why couldn't we enter a series of items that can be answered and updated as we build our trucks. Limit the area to 48-60 trucks. Maybe three word max answers. We could pick as many items as space allows. My initial suggestions would include:

Engine: --- Gas Tank location:---
Transmission: ---- Wiring Harness used:--
Front Suspension: ---- 6VDC or 12VDC:---
Rear Suspension: --- Steering Column Type:---
Seat Used: --- Steering Box:---

Have a group evaluate these and other items and select the most helpful items. chuck

It would be great to have that, but it's about impossible to get everyone to put their Location in their profile, let alone all that.

I think this is a great idea. A couple others I've heard a lot of questions on is and may help others is
  • Brakes Front/Rear (OEM;Disk;Drum)
  • Tires - Front
  • Tires - Rear
  • Wheels - Front
  • Wheels - Rear
  • Rear End
  • Gauges
Also besides the gas tank location how about adding;
  • Gas Tank Type
Also what about Modifications to headling like engine, trans, rear end (or can do it for Drive Train Mods) and Suspension

The only way the location thing will get better is if the FTE administrators make it a " * required field " at the time of registration. Most of the people who join this forum are not into the whole internet chat board, forum scene in my observation (including myself before I joined). What you're suggesting sounds great, but like Ross said, it's hard enough to get the basics.

Does it bug you guys that most everyone's garage is empty - conveinent little link right 3 lines under the name and mostly useless cause half the time empty. (Sorry just the truck porn fanatic in me - I like having the build and how to stuff available but not up front, and the garage collection right out front.)

sdetweil 09-22-2011 12:49 PM

and another problem.. many don't KNOW what that answer is..

I joined in 2000, and decided on many of those answers in 2005-2008..

so, I couldn't fill in the info, even if I wanted to..

make it mandatory and you'll just get junk

Okay so I clicked on the "garage portal" and tried to add at least my 49. I clicked the submit button and it stopped me from proceeding because I hadn't entered my truck's "nickname". WTH? It's just my truck. I just stopped there. I also saw that it wanted my truck's speed in the 1/4 mile. :-missingt I think the garage thing is an old feature that most of us have ignored. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there's the "garage", "gallery", AND now we have "albums" as possible places we could post info/pics about our trucks. It needs to be consolidated and simplified.

Agreed adding a nickname is kinda dumb - as you can see mine is just like '48 F1 or something. All the drag strip info is all optional so you can skip all that. Not too painful - and all it does is link 1 album to the "garage". They could do with making it a little more intuitive.

Doc 09-22-2011 01:15 PM

So I just went back in there and threw a nickname on it (woohoo). Well, I hit the submit button and it wouldn't allow it. Kept saying "This user does not have a garage" when I tried it repeatedly. LOL. No ****, I was trying to create one.

EDIT: LOL. This is a hoot. Now it lists my truck even though it told me I didn't have a garage. Good grief, life is too short. I'll leave mine parked out in the "driveway".

Mr. Chuck, this is an excellent topic. Thank you for bringing it up.

Doc, I must agree with your statement of "Most of the people who join this forum are not into the whole internet chat board" thing. I was once like that. I'm not big on the MySpace, FaceBook Twitter thingy... but for some reason when I rise from bed no matter at what time, FTE is the first thing I check. My significant other calls it "my FaceBook". I smile because she's right.

Brain75, it is a little disappointing not to be able to check out other FTE friend's project progress. Photos are the best - as you call it porn. I think it's funny but it is true!

Respectfully, I love my FTE friends.

Paul

Doc whatever you did it worked (twice) - you have 2 trucks in your garage (both named "1949 Ford F-Series Pickup F-1" now... and two garages. wow LOL - not laughin at you, laughin at the result of a crappy user interface... perhaps I will make a how to, right after I get done with the how to block advertisers guide I am making right now (see STP thread)

brain75 09-22-2011 02:50 PM

If it's any consolation, I fubar'd my 1st attempt and had to delete the whole album and start over. I am a computer programmer - it's my job to understand this foo!
