1994 F150 Transmission Hard Shiftin

Hello,

I have a friend with a 94 F150, 302 engine, Automatic, 4x4. He was driving down the road the other day and it banged into gear at high rpm when it used to shift at lower RPMs. It also lit up the abs light and the speedometer stopped working.

He found that the rear end speed sensor wire was broken and has repaired that. That did nothing for the shifting. But, that did correct the abs light and non-functioning speedometer.

After that incident, it still does not shift right. What could be the cause.

Regards,

Ford Fuel Injection » How To Run a Self-Test Here is a link on how to get any trouble codes. Maybe try that to pin-point the problem.

Still no ideas on this transmission. When it goes into each gear it revs very high and then BOom into gear. Once in gear its fine and does not slip. Please help.

Did you check for trouble codes? Probably going to be 3 digit codes.

pull that sensor out of the rear diff and clean it off. he should also trace that wiring back to make sure there are not any further breaks in the wire or spot that are grounding onto the frame. Has he unhooked the battery for 10-15mins and then seen if things clear up?

gotta pull codes, TPS issues may cause shifting problems, same goes for the mlps.

Thanks everybody for the suggestions.

My friend had his mechanic come over with the error code reader.

"Shift indicator problem" was read out.

They traced the wires. One wire had 5 volts going to it and zero coming out which indicated a broken wire in the harness.

Right next to the front plug on the transmission they found a wire that was broken in half. Soldered it up, and everything is fine!
