I know what you mean having an experience like that, saw many MVA's involving kids, was the toughest scenes to encounter.

Well, all I can say, is DE law enforcement were an awesome sight to see. From our perspective (and there were LOTS of them), they all seemed coordinated and engaged in the situation.

When the chopper took off, and the ambulance and paramedics left the scene... we watched many of them walk past the house, to their vehicles parked up & down our road - they all walked subdued, with heads down - you could just feel the disappointment that it turned out the way it did.

The mva's with kids are hard to see. I see alot of things at the university.

We would spend hours at the firehouse after calls just deflating all the emotions before you go home.

No doubt those are tough calls. I have a lot of respect for guys and gals going out and doing that job...it's not easy.

They never are Bill. We have had a few serious calls on campus that were not much fun at all to deal with.

I have a few personal experiences that I will never forget, and it took time afterwards to get past it's effects. We have a group here in Jersey called Critical Stress Incident Management Team, they were implemented back in the early 90's made a difference in the way EMS and First responders handled emergency scenes.

We have Teams like that all over MD Steve. At work we have the counseling department to help with tough calls.

sddesigns 09-02-2011 09:13 PM

We always had debriefings after tough ones and the IC would make a call if he saw anyone with the signs!

I'm gonna call it a night an get back to work on the server

It's good that you have those teams...we had a lot of guys on our fire companies locally that felt they were indestructible and didn't need the teams. Down the road they were grateful for the resource. Can only deal with so much.
