Arlene, what was the final result?

fire240 09-02-2011 08:36 PM

Sounds like it was a busy morning Arlene. Hopefully the guy is getting the help he needs.

I heard a gunshot about 12:15am, checked the clock, checked out back to make sure my son wasn't still in the garage... and went back to sleep.

Well, apparently, there was a 20 year old suicidal young man just down the street that intersects with our road.

My son got up around 7:30 to head out to work and got me up to see what was going on. They had blocked off our road entirely. He was lucky he got out to go to work.

That sucks..

Hopefully the kid didn't succeed

liftnw8z 09-02-2011 08:38 PM

Yeah, hopefully he didn't end up succeeding. Bad enough scene as it was.

Arlene 09-02-2011 08:39 PM

Well, he was the one who called 911, so at least he did reach out. I understand they arrived shortly after midnight, and negotiated until they finally got into the house at about 8:15am... he had shot himself, and last anyone heard, he was in critical condition at a local hospital.

sddesigns 09-02-2011 08:40 PM

Well that was a call for help!

fire240 09-02-2011 08:40 PM

Hopefully he will come through all right and get the help he needs Arlene.

It truly was like something you see on TV - and I'm watching it all unfold in front of the house... guys in camo with rather large guns... guys in full SWAT gear... canine unit... chopper landing... unreal.

liftnw8z 09-02-2011 08:42 PM

That is true, he did try. Hopefully he pulls through.

That had to be a sight. I've come onto a few accident scenes like this but nothing to that degree.

fire240 09-02-2011 08:44 PM

I have seen scenes like that as well. Several yrs ago we had a barricaded person incident. He had taken hostages as well. That was maybe a mile from my house.

And having a son exactly the same age (thankfully well adjusted, with a good head on his shoulders), I think made it hit home just a little harder. I can't imagine what the family is going through at this point.

fire240 09-02-2011 08:46 PM

I can understand that Arlene.

donjamer 09-02-2011 08:48 PM

It is to bad they feel that is the only solution

That, without question, is a tough one. Even though I cut my "problem" off, those stories still kinda hit home with all I went through with that situation because it was much of the same, minus all the cops and K9 units...
