3.9L (Freestar) Intake Manifold Runner Control
 

I realize this is mostly trucks, but I thought someone might benefit from IMRC problem. My 2004 Freestar threw code P2004 - Intake Manifold Runner Control stuck open - bank 1. After a little research via google I found a diagram of the IRMC and then found it on my freestar. Below is a picture of the condition it was in:

The bushing was broke. I purchased a new pack of bushings from Advance Auto (dorman 47099, pack of 5, $2.50). I dropped 2 before I managed to get one in the lever. The trick - I wrapped my finger with duct tape, sticky side out, and then stuck a bushing on it. I could just get my finger down there to push the bushing in the lever. I then used needle nose pliers to push the rod into the bushing.

Anyway, maybe this might be helpful to others.

The dealer wanted $350 to replace this IMRC clip. Ever other internet post says clips are available only from a dealer. I called Pep Boys and Advanced Auto and they said the same. It looks like to me that Dorman 47099 bushing you used will work perfectly. I'm currious to know if the bushing has been holding up for you.

Never saw this question from 2012, but just to follow-up.......the Dorman bushing is holding up just fine. I replaced it 2 years ago at 94k miles and no problems. Now at 118k miles on odometer

does anyone know where the imrc is located on the engine of a 2005 freestar? im getting a code p2006. the pic at the top of this post is an excellent picture but im not sure exactly where it is on engine. thanks

it's right in front of the fuel rail on the front of the motor. had a wicked combo of issues, turned out the IMRC bushings/nylon nuts were the real culprits. got some dorman 47099s on the way, hopefully she will be all better. good luck
