High Mileage 5.4 F250

I currently have an 88 f250 and need something newer(more reliable) to take up to college. I am looking at a 2002 f250 5.4 triton v8, clean truck. Only problem is the truck has 208,000 miles on it. Would this truck be worth buying, or would I be wasting my money? lookin for some advice.Thanks.

Depends on how the truck was used and how well it was taken care of. Fluid changes regularly. I have a friend that has over 280,000 on his 5.4 and it's still running and running.

Wouldn't mess with it, way too many things are getting to the end of their life at that mileage.

When I think of a college student, I picture compact with awsome gas mileage. What's with the F250??? Not to mention parking. I had a new 08 5.4L F250 reg cab and it was a dog. Can't imagine one with 200,000 miles. I don't think I would pay more than $500 for anything with more than 200,000 miles except maybe a diesel. I sold my mothers Bonneiville w/ 115,000 for $1200 a few years back. And that was a reliable car, smooth ride with leather.

As many have proven, the modular engines can go WELL over 200K miles if they receive proper maintenance and are not grossly abused.

The rest of the truck will likely have a lot wear that may require repairs in the next few years. Transmission, suspension, steering, brakes, electric motors, possibly rust damage, etc etc etc.

If you do your own work, not so bad. But if you have to pay others, the down time and cost will hurt.
