Possibly a new raptor owner
Hey!
I was wanting to get the raptor owners opinion. I went and looked at a raptor today and it was awesome. I want this truck bad! It's a silver 6.2 crew cab. No deals and I pay sticker. I dunno if I want to be 47 grand into this truck. That's a ton for a 150. What do u guys think? Thanks in advance!:-drink |
I think that's a ton of money, and that the "Don't buy the first model year..." caution should be heeded:
https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...ent-frame.html If you are going to the mall with it, buy with pride. If you are headed into rough country, beware methinks. Drive it like you would a regular pickup, and enjoy the slightly smoother ride over rough stuff.:-X03 |
Gosh I just spent an hour reading about the rear frame bending. I cannot believe that. May be best to hold out for a 2012. That or order that rear frame kit.

I own a '10 6.2 Raptor and would highly recommend getting one to almost anyone. It has no bends in its 20k miles. I drive it like a rally car, slide it, hit the occasional rock or tree, and yes fly it. All within reason though, after all, it is "JUST an F150". It does everything my '02 F250 does, except haul and tow as much, just smoother and faster.
Folks that don't think while driving or try to show up or keep up are the very small group of idiots bending their frames, breaking control arms and denting front skid plates. An idiot can over drive anything from a hundred dollar VW Bug to a million dollar Trophy Truck and bend them. So, unless you are an idiot I say go get it and have fun!! Don't let 50ish idiots overrun the 15000ish responsible Raptor owners to make the truck look bad when it is the drivers fault. It is the same frame as an F150 and I bet many an idiot has bent them too. |
Thanks for your reply! That sure is alot of month though. What kind of deal ddi you get on yours?
They are not willing to deal on this truck at all. |
I got no deal, paid sticker. Are you going to keep the Super Duty? Maybe get a deal with it to help money matters. The screw you are looking at can tow 8000 pounds, but can't handle much weight in the bed. just depends if you need a "truck" or get by with a sport truck.
I got the Raptor April last year and only have put about 1000 miles on the Super Duty since. I now seem to make a lot more visits to the feed store. Yeah, it is worth it. Even my wife thinks so. |
I would never buy that truck, but if i wanted a one new at this point i would wait and see what ford is gonna do about there frames. they might just recall all of them. I would wait till 2012.

Heck yea I'm keeping the super duty! I want a raptor to have as a playtoy

Oh and I don't understand it but these dealers are hanging onto them wanting sticker all the while the trucks are sitting on the lots for 100+ days. It's not looking good. They DO NOT want to deal. The deal they throw at you is junk. If it's sitting 100+ days then they don't have something hot

I wouldn't worry about the frame on the Raptor. It was a handful of trucks (10) on the SAME trip where the speeds averaged around 80 and topped out at 125 for one truck. Abuse, a manufacturers defect does not make. One of the guys on that trip (with a bent frame) abused his truck and wants Ford to pay for it and is the one pushing all of the publicity for it.
I know of a guy who does about $3000 off MSRP and will deliver - anywhere. I will send you a PM. |
Dealers will deal. I paid $500 over dealer invoice not sticker. I could have gotten better if I had worked a little harder. (the dealer agreed to my offer without even countering) I ordered a 2011 in November of 2010 with all the options. AS far as the bed bending issue goes I wouldn't worry about it. Trophy trucks bend too. It is all in knowing what you can an can't do. Drive like you have sense and you will be ok. Run flat out and you will break something no matter what you are driving. Understanding the truck and its limitations is the key.
I have run mine 80plus mph on the sand, through whoops and had no issues. Hitting "kickers" or large bumps that exceed the suspensions travel is what caused the damage. I have also towed a lot with it and while it will not tow 10,000lbs (due to softer suspension) like the new ecoboost it does tow my 2000 lb trailer with a 4000 lb toy with ease and comfort. |
